Rowan Miko Sweater by Georgia Farrell
What is Being Made
The Rowan Miko is an intermediate-level knitted sweater designed to fit chest measurements ranging from 81-86 cm (32-34 inches) up to 132-137 cm (52-54 inches). This pullover garment features a classic construction with a shaped front neckline, set-in sleeves, and a ribbed neckband finish.
Techniques Used
This design employs several essential knitting techniques suitable for intermediate crafters. The garment construction includes cast-on and cast-off methods to establish and finish edges, shaping through strategic decreasing at the front neck and shoulders to create a fitted silhouette, and pattern integration maintained throughout shaping rows. The sweater demonstrates two-piece sleeve construction with ribbed cuffs and neckband finishing using grafting or three-needle bind-off techniques to join held stitches.
Stitches Used
- Ribbing: A combination of knit through the back loop (K1 tbl) and purl (P1) creates the textured ribbed edging on the cuffs, waistband, and neckband
- Stockinette or patterned stitches: The main body is worked in a stitch pattern that is maintained consistently across front, back, and sleeves
- Decreasing: Single stitch decreases at the neck edge over multiple rows create the front neckline shaping
- Shoulder shaping: Bind-offs at regular intervals create angled shoulders for proper garment fit
Materials
This pattern calls for Alpaca Soft DK yarn in 50-gram balls, with 11 to 13 balls required depending on the chosen size. The photographed sample is worked in the colorway Trench Coat 202. Needles required include 3¼mm (US 3) needles for ribbed sections and 4mm (US 6) needles for the main body. The pattern specifies a tension of 21 stitches and 34 rows to 10 centimeters measured over pattern using the 4mm needles, making accurate gauge essential for proper fit across all six size options.
