Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The Bea Wrap employs straightforward knitting techniques suitable for beginners. The pattern uses two primary stitches:

• Garter Stitch (g st): Used for the border sections and the opening and closing rows, garter stitch creates a textured, reversible fabric. The wrap begins and ends with 6 rows of garter stitch, and 4 edge stitches are maintained in garter stitch throughout the body of the wrap.
• Stockinette Stitch (st st): The central section of the wrap is worked in stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic knitted appearance with visible V-shaped stitches on the right side.

The pattern is straightforward: after casting on 110 stitches and working the initial garter stitch border, stitches are worked with a combination of knit and purl rows to establish the stockinette center with garter stitch edges. This mixed-stitch approach adds visual interest while maintaining ease of construction.

Materials: Yarn and Needles

The Bea Wrap is knitted using Rowan Kidsilk Haze, a luxurious yarn available in 50-gram balls. The photographed version features two colorways: Brook 002 and Sunset 008, allowing for creative color combinations or a single-color option.

Two needle sizes are required:

• 3¼mm (US 3) needles: Used for casting on and the border sections in garter stitch, where the slightly smaller needle size helps create neat, defined edges.
• 4mm (US 6) needles: Used for the main body of the wrap, worked in the mixed stitch pattern of stockinette and garter stitch.

Tension and Finishing

The pattern specifies a tension of 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 centimeters, measured over stockinette stitch using 4mm (US 6) needles. Achieving correct tension is essential for obtaining the intended finished dimensions. After knitting is complete, the wrap should be pressed according to the ball band instructions, with special attention to the edges to ensure neat finishing and easier seaming if required.
