The Brooklyn sweater is worked using a bottom-up, seamed construction with pieces worked flat on needles. This traditional approach means the knitter begins at the lower edge of each component and works upward, then assembles the finished pieces together. The sweater consists of distinct sections including a back panel, front panels, and sleeves that are individually completed before being seamed together to form the finished garment.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The Brooklyn pattern primarily features stocking stitch as the main fabric throughout the body of the sweater. Stocking stitch creates a smooth, classic appearance with a distinctive V-pattern on the right side of the fabric. The pattern also incorporates ribbed edging worked in a knit one, purl one (K1, P1) rib pattern. This ribbing appears at the cuff edges of the sleeves and at the lower edge of the sweater body, providing elasticity and a neat, finished appearance.
