What is Being Made

The finished garment features actual bust measurements ranging from 94 to 133 cm (37 to 52½ inches), making it suitable for a range of body types. This is a structured, tailored sweater constructed using traditional knitwear shaping techniques.

Knitting Techniques Used

This sweater is worked using a bottom-up construction method, meaning pieces are knitted from the lower edge upward. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, and pieces are seamed together upon completion. The pattern employs raglan armhole shaping, a classic technique where diagonal decreases are worked at the armholes to create a sloped shoulder line that extends from the underarm to the neckline. Wrapped stitch techniques are used during ribbed sections to create smooth, professional-looking shaping transitions.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch pattern used throughout Dimity is twisted rib, which creates vertical lines of texture and provides excellent elasticity and recovery. The ribbed sections are worked using knit and purl combinations that maintain their structure through the garment. Decreasing stitches for raglan shaping is accomplished using standard decrease methods including slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over (sl 1, K1, psso) and knit 2 together (K2tog) on right-side rows, with corresponding purl decreases on wrong-side rows. Materials: Yarn and Needles

Rowan Dimity is designed to be knitted in Cotton Cashmere yarn, a luxurious blend that combines the breathability of cotton with the softness and warmth of cashmere. The pattern requires between 8 and 12 balls of 50-gram yarn, depending on size selected. The garment shown in the pattern photography is worked in the colorway Linen 211. Two needle sizes are required: 3¼mm (US 3) needles for ribbed cuffs and edges, and 4mm (US 6) needles for the main body fabric. The twisted rib tension is measured at 21.5 stitches and 28 rows to 10 cm using the larger 4mm needles.

Pattern Structure and Shaping Details

The back and front pieces are worked identically through the initial stages, with wrapped stitch techniques creating graduated shaping in the ribbed sections. The pattern includes specific instructions for casting off stitches at the beginning of rows to establish the raglan armhole depth, followed by paired decreases worked on consecutive rows to create the characteristic diagonal lines of raglan shaping. Multiple size variations are provided throughout, indicated in brackets, allowing the pattern to be adapted for different finished measurements.
