What is Being Made

The Rowan Eowyn Gloves are a pair of knitted gloves designed to fit an average size adult hand. This downloadable knitting pattern creates elegant gloves featuring decorative cable work on the main sections and an ornamental cuff with lace detailing and beaded embellishment.

Techniques Used

This pattern employs several intermediate knitting techniques to create visual interest and structure:

• Cable knitting: The main sections feature cable stitches that create raised, twisted rope-like textures running vertically down the hand
• Lace work: The cuff incorporates yarn forward decreases (yfwd, K2tog combinations) to create delicate openwork patterns
• Reverse stockinette stitch: Used as the base fabric, measured at 12 stitches and 20 rows to 10 centimeters over the specified needles and doubled yarn
• Beading: Decorative beads are sewn onto the completed knitted sections after all knitting is finished, adding embellishment and visual sophistication

Stitches Used

The Eowyn Gloves utilize fundamental and decorative knitting stitches including knit stitches, purl stitches, yarn forwards (yarn overs), knit two together decreases, and cable crosses. The lace sections of the cuff are formed through repeated yarn forward and decrease combinations that create intentional holes in the fabric. The main hand sections are worked primarily in reverse stockinette stitch with cable panels integrated throughout.

Materials

Yarn: The pattern calls for 2 x 50 gram balls of Rowan Kid Classic yarn (photographed in the colorway Drought 876), worked using doubled yarn throughout the project.

Needles and Notions: One pair of 7mm (US 10½) needles and a cable needle are required for the cable work. Additionally, one pack of Swarovski Silver Selection beads (art no 9825101-00021) containing 126 beads total is needed for decoration, including 8mm black beads, 6mm grey faux pearl beads, and faceted crystal beads.

Construction Details

The gloves are constructed in two main sections that are later joined to form tubes. Each main section is cast on with 30 stitches and worked in the cable and reverse stockinette pattern. A separate cuff section with lace patterning is created and then attached to the main glove body. The cuff features a 3 centimeter opening positioned to align with the thumb opening when the pieces are assembled. After all knitting is complete, the beads are individually attached to the finished glove sections using the photograph as a guide for placement, adding a luxurious beaded finish to the design.
