Techniques Used

This scarf is worked using bottom-up construction, meaning you cast on at one end and work toward the finished length. The design is seamless and worked flat on straight needles, eliminating the need for seaming or joining pieces together. The pattern employs a simple alternating stitch pattern that creates texture while remaining accessible to knitters of all skill levels.

Stitches and Stitch Pattern

The scarf features two primary stitches worked in alternating sections:

• Garter stitch (knit every row) used for the opening and closing edges, creating a classic, textured border
• Stockinette stitch (knit on right-side rows, purl on wrong-side rows) with edge stitches, forming the main body pattern. The pattern maintains 2 edge stitches in garter stitch on each side while working stockinette in the center, creating a neat, finished appearance without requiring additional finishing techniques.

Yarn and Materials

This project uses Rowan Cashmere Haze yarn in three coordinating colorways:

The tension is measured at 19 stitches and 26 rows over 10 cm in stockinette stitch using 5mm needles with two strands of yarn held together.

Construction Details

The scarf begins with casting on 44 stitches and working 4 rows of garter stitch for a textured edge. The main pattern then alternates between stockinette and garter sections while introducing different yarn color combinations at specific measurements: the first color section extends to 26 cm, the second to 189 cm, and the final section to 214 cm. The scarf concludes with 3 rows of garter stitch and a knitwise cast-off worked on the wrong side, creating a polished, professional finish.
