What is Being Made

Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project employs several fundamental shaping techniques. The cardigan begins with ribbed edging at the lower edge, which provides elasticity and a neat finish. Armhole shaping is achieved through strategic cast-offs and decreases worked over multiple rows and alternate rows, creating a fitted sleeve opening. Front neck shaping uses decreases at the neck edge to create the neckline curve, while shoulder shaping through cast-offs ensures proper garment structure. Materials

Knitting is worked on 3¾ mm (US 5) needles, and the pattern calls for six small buttons for the front closure. A tension of 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) measured over stockinette stitch using the specified needles is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements. Stitch holders are required to hold stitches during construction, particularly for the neckband.
