Shibui Knits Renew Wrap

What Is Being Made

The Renew Wrap is a sophisticated spring layer designed by Britt-Marie Brehmer that combines graphic lines with dynamic texture. This wrap features breezy fabric and dramatic drape, creating an understated accessory perfect for layering during transitional seasons. The design is available in two distinct versions—Twig and Pebble—each offering unique fiber compositions and finished dimensions.

Finished Dimensions

  • Twig version: Approximately 18" wide × 71" long
  • Pebble version: Approximately 17" wide × 78" long

Techniques Used

The Renew Wrap is constructed using seamless knitting worked flat, a technique that creates a cohesive fabric without requiring seaming. The wrap is knit from the short end, beginning with a section of 1×1 rib that establishes the foundation. The construction then progresses through alternating bands of 2×2 rib and stockinette stitch, with 1×1 rib borders framing these sections. This strategic alternation of textured and smooth stitches creates the graphic lines and visual interest that define the design. The slipped stitch technique is employed throughout, worked purlwise with yarn in back on right-side rows and yarn in front on wrong-side rows, contributing to the wrap's refined edge definition.

Stitches Used

  • 1×1 Rib: Creates the opening section and borders, alternating single knit and purl stitches for elastic, defined edges
  • 2×2 Rib: Forms alternating bands that provide textural contrast and contribute to the wrap's dynamic appearance
  • Stockinette Stitch: Alternates with ribbed sections to create smooth, flowing bands that enhance the dramatic drape
  • Slipped Stitches: Worked throughout for refined selvage edges and polished finishing

Design Notes

The Renew Wrap achieves its signature aesthetic through the interplay of ribbed and stockinette sections, which create both visual and tactile interest. The choice between Twig and Pebble versions allows knitters to select based on desired drape characteristics and fiber preferences. The Twig version, featuring linen and recycled silk, offers a lighter hand and breathable quality ideal for spring layering. The Pebble version, enriched with cashmere, provides enhanced softness and luxury.
