Shibui Knits Tuva V-Neck Pullover
What Is Being Made
The Tuva is a contemporary V-neck pullover sweater designed by Shellie Anderson for Shibui Knits. This multi-season tunic-length garment combines classic shaping with sophisticated details, making it versatile enough for both casual wear and elegant occasions. The pullover features an A-line silhouette with subtle shaping, vents at the hem for ease of movement, and extended-length sleeves that are set in and seamed for a refined finish.
Techniques Used
Tuva is worked flat from the bottom up, a construction method that allows for precise shaping and control throughout the garment. The body and sleeves are constructed separately using flat knitting before being assembled. The pullover incorporates seamed construction, with sleeves set in after completion and seamed to the body for a polished, tailored appearance. A stockinette stitch collar is picked up and worked in the round at the V-neck opening, creating a finished neckline. The pattern includes a 3-Needle Bind-Off technique for secure seaming. Vents are worked at both the hem and wrist cuffs, adding functional design details and ease.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch – The primary stitch throughout the body and sleeves, creating a smooth, classic fabric with excellent drape
- 1 × 1 Crossed Stitch – Used for edgings on the hem and sleeve cuffs, providing a refined, textured border that prevents rolling
Materials and Yarn
Tuva is knit using two strands held together throughout, combining Shibui Knits Cima and Shibui Knits Lunar for a luxurious, multi-textured fabric with exceptional shine and drape.
Shibui Knits Cima: Composed of 70% Superbaby Alpaca and 30% Fine Merino, this yarn provides softness and luster. Each skein contains 328 yards per 50 grams. The pattern requires 4 to 6 skeins depending on size.
Shibui Knits Lunar: Made from 60% Extra Fine Merino and 40% Mulberry Silk, this yarn adds elegance and a subtle sheen to the finished garment. Each skein contains 401 yards per 50 grams. The pattern requires 4 to 5 skeins depending on size.
The combination of alpaca, merino, and silk creates a sophisticated, breathable fabric suitable for multiple seasons, with the silk contributing a distinctive lustrous finish.
