Sirdar Airtex Rib Sweater

What is Being Made

The Sirdar Airtex Rib Sweater (Design No. 10557) is an intermediate-level women's knitted pullover available in six sizes ranging from 81cm to 137cm chest (32 to 54 inches). This sophisticated womenswear piece features a classic sweater silhouette with a full-length body and set-in sleeves, designed to be both elegant and wearable across a range of body sizes.

Techniques and Construction

This sweater is constructed using fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. The pattern follows traditional sweater construction methods with separate pieces for the back, front, and sleeves that are subsequently seamed together. The design incorporates rib stitch detailing, which provides structure and elasticity to the garment, creating a refined finished appearance typical of designer-quality knitwear.

Stitches Used

  • Rib stitch – provides elasticity and a polished, tailored finish throughout the sweater
  • Standard knit and purl combinations forming the primary fabric structure

Materials and Yarn Specifications

This pattern is designed specifically for Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk, a luxury yarn blend combining pure silk, extra fine merino wool, and Himalayan cashmere. The yarn is worked in Double Knitting (DK) weight, a versatile medium weight ideal for creating garments with excellent drape and refined texture.

The recommended yarn is Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk shade 407 (Royal Navy), with yardage requirements varying by size from 13 to 19 balls of 50g. Additional colour options available include shade 416 (Orchard Red), shade 415 (Polished Copper), and shade 421 (Meadow Greens).

Knitting needles required are 4mm (UK size 8, USA size 6), with additional needle sizes specified on the pattern's back page for ribbed edgings and finishing details.

About the Yarn
