This seamless, in-the-round knit project features a finished circumference of 15 inches at the brim and stands 7.5 inches tall, fitting an adult medium head size of 21-23 inches. The design captures the visual complexity of the Andean terrain through a combination of textured stitches and colorwork techniques, making it suitable for both casual neighborhood walks and serious mountain hiking adventures.

Techniques Used

The Southern Andes Cap employs multiple advanced knitting techniques to create its mountain-inspired aesthetic. The pattern is worked seamlessly in the round using circular needles, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a continuous tubular fabric. Stranded colorwork introduces two contrasting colors—Moody Mauve and Charcoal—to form subtle peaks reminiscent of mountain peaks across the hat's surface. Materials and Tools

The Southern Andes Cap is designed to be worked with Highland Lux by HiKoo®, a premium yarn blend consisting of 90% Highland Wool and 10% Kid Mohair. One 100-gram ball (273 yards/250 meters) is required for each of the two colors: Color A in Moody Mauve (#4107) and Color B in Charcoal (#4101). This wool and mohair blend provides warmth, comfort, and a soft hand suitable for extended wear in cool weather conditions.

Needles required include 16-inch skacel by addi® circular needles in US 5 [3.75mm] for the ribbed sections and 16-inch skacel by addi® circular needles in US 7 [4.50mm] for the stockinette and patterned sections. Additional notions include six stitch markers (one unique marker to denote the end of round), a cable needle for manipulating cable stitches, and standard yarn tools for finishing. The pattern is worked bottom-up, beginning with a cast-on at the brim and progressing toward the crown.

Gauge and Sizing
