Stacy Charles Fine Yarns Addison Tank
What is Being Made
The Addison Tank is a sleeveless knitted sweater designed by Irina Poludnenko. This intermediate-level garment is available in six sizes ranging from Small to 3X, with finished bust measurements from 33¼ inches (84.5 cm) to 52¾ inches (134 cm). The tank features a fitted silhouette with 0-2 inches of positive ease and lengths varying from 19½ inches (49.5 cm) in the smallest size to 22 inches (56 cm) in the largest size.
Construction Techniques
The Addison Tank employs a sophisticated bottom-up construction method that combines multiple knitting techniques for a professional finish. The body is worked seamlessly in the round as one continuous piece up to the armholes, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a smooth, comfortable garment. After the body reaches the armhole depth, it is divided to work the back and front separately, with the knitter working back and forth in rows for these sections. The pattern incorporates short row shaping to create a contoured fit. Additionally, the design features striped colorwork, utilizing two coordinating colors from the Stacy Charles Fine Yarns Amelia line to add visual interest and dimension to the finished piece.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
The primary stitch used throughout the Addison Tank is Stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a flat knit surface on the right side and purl bumps on the wrong side. The pattern requires several essential knitting abbreviations and techniques:
- K1-f/b (Knit 1 front and back) – an increase stitch worked by knitting into the front of a stitch, then separately knitting into the back loop of the same stitch
- K2tog (Knit 2 together) – a right-leaning decrease that combines two stitches into one
- Ssk or ssp (Slip, slip, knit or purl) – a left-leaning decrease created by slipping two stitches knitwise individually, returning them to the left needle in turned position, then knitting or purling them together through the back loops
- W&T (Wrap and turn) – a short row technique that wraps the yarn around a stitch before turning to work in the opposite direction, creating invisible shaping
The pattern also includes purl rounds at the cast-on edge to create a finished edge detail. Increases and decreases are strategically placed on alternating sides of the body to maintain straight, vertical lines while shaping the garment.
Materials and Tools
The Addison Tank is designed to be knitted with Stacy Charles Fine Yarns Amelia, a luxurious blend yarn composed of 40% silk, 30% linen, and 30% cotton. This fiber combination creates a breathable, elegant fabric ideal for a sleeveless tank. The pattern calls for 3 to 5 balls of the main color (color #30 vineyard, designated as A) and 2 to 4 balls of the contrast color (color #18 crushed grape, designated as B), depending on the finished size. Each ball weighs 1.75 ounces (50 grams) and contains 137 yards (125 meters) of yarn.
Knitters will need US size 5 (3.75mm) circular needles in two lengths: a 24-inch (60 cm) needle for working the body in the round, and a 16-inch (40 cm) needle for the neck and armhole edgings. Additional supplies include a stitch marker to denote the beginning of rounds and a yarn needle for weaving in ends. The recommended gauge is 20½ stitches and 28 rounds over 4 inches (10 cm) in blocked Stockinette stitch, which should be verified before beginning the project to ensure proper fit.
