Stacy Charles Fine Yarns Georgia Pullover

Garment Overview

The Georgia Pullover is an intermediate-level knitted sweater designed by Sandi Rosner. This pullover is constructed as a seamless, top-down garment worked in the round, making it an ideal project for knitters seeking a modern construction method that minimizes finishing work. The sweater is available in eight sizes ranging from X-Small to 4XL, with the sample photographed in size Small. Finished bust measurements span from 33¾ inches (85.5 cm) for the smallest size to 60½ inches (153.5 cm) for the largest, with corresponding lengths ranging from 23½ inches (59.5 cm) to 27½ inches (70 cm).

Techniques and Construction Method

This pullover employs three primary knitting techniques that define its construction:

  • Seamless Construction: The Georgia Pullover is knitted as a single continuous piece without seams, eliminating the need for assembly and creating a more refined finished garment.
  • Top-Down Method: The sweater begins at the neckline and progresses downward toward the hem, allowing for easy fitting adjustments and the ability to try on the garment during the knitting process.
  • Worked in the Round: Using circular needles, the garment is knitted circularly rather than in flat rows, which creates seamless tubes for the body and sleeves.

The pattern incorporates raglan shaping at the yoke, a classic sweater construction technique where increases are strategically placed along raglan lines to create the proper sleeve cap and shoulder fit. The yoke section features a K3, P1 Rib stitch pattern, which creates vertical texture and elasticity in the upper portion of the sweater.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The Georgia Pullover utilizes fundamental knitting stitches combined in textured patterns:

  • Knit (K) and Purl (P) Stitches: The foundation stitches used throughout the pattern to create the ribbed texture and overall fabric structure.
  • K3, P1 Rib: A repeating pattern of three knit stitches followed by one purl stitch, used prominently in the yoke section. This rib is worked at a gauge of 18 stitches and 25 rounds over 4 inches (10 cm) on larger needles, creating a fabric with vertical definition and moderate stretch.
  • Increases (M1L and M1R): Make 1 Left and Make 1 Right increases are used to shape the raglan lines and front neck shaping. These increases are created by lifting the strand between needles and knitting through the front loop, producing invisible or nearly invisible increases that maintain pattern continuity.
  • Decreases (K2tog): Knit 2 together decreases are employed where shaping requires a reduction in stitch count.
  • Cable Cast-On: A special cast-on technique used to begin the pattern, created by inserting the right-hand needle between the first two stitches on the left-hand needle, knitting and pulling the loop through to the front, then placing the new stitch on the left-hand needle. This method produces a sturdy, finished edge suitable for a neckline.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Georgia Pullover is designed to be worked in Stacy Charles Fine Yarns MEGAN, a luxury blend yarn composed of 50% extra fine merino and 50% polyester. This fiber combination offers the breathability and softness of merino wool balanced with the durability and shape retention of polyester. The yarn is available in color #478 taupe, a neutral neutral shade suitable for versatile styling.

Yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from 6 balls (1,050 yards/957 meters) for the X-Small to 11 balls (1,925 yards/1,751 meters) for the 4XL. Each ball contains 1.75 ounces (50 grams) and provides 154 yards (141 meters) of yardage.

Needles and Tools

The pattern requires a multi-needle approach to accommodate different sections of the sweater:

  • US 8 (5mm) Circular Needles: Available in both 16-inch (40 cm) and 32-inch (80 cm) lengths, these larger needles are used for the main body and yoke sections where
