What is Being Made

The Lagom is a striped asymmetrical shawl designed by Brandy Velten. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a triangular wrap that measures approximately 66 inches along the top edge with a maximum depth of 14½ inches at its tallest point. The shawl is worked sideways from point to point, resulting in its distinctive asymmetrical triangle shape. The design showcases a beautiful gradient created by the Party of Five color set, which gradually transitions through five distinct hues to produce a rich yet subtle color effect.

Techniques Used

This shawl employs several key knitting techniques that create both visual interest and textural depth. The construction method of working sideways from point to point is fundamental to achieving the asymmetrical triangle silhouette. The pattern incorporates textural stitches that enhance the gradient effect while maintaining the garment's lightweight, squishy comfort. Materials

Yarn: This project uses two distinct yarns from SweetGeorgia. The main color (MC) is one skein of SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock in Birch, providing 425 yards and 389 meters per 4 ounces (115 grams). The contrast colors come from one SweetGeorgia "Party of Five" Tough Love Sock Mini-Skein set in Swell (CC 1-5), which contains five mini skeins totaling 525 yards and 480 meters per 5 ounces (144 grams). Both yarns are composed of 80% merino wool and 20% nylon, creating a durable, elastic fabric with excellent stitch definition and comfort.

Needles: A US Size 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle measuring at least 24 inches (60 centimeters) in length is required. Circular needles are essential for this sideways construction method.

Additional Notions: A yarn needle is needed for weaving in ends upon completion.

Gauge and Sizing

The pattern specifies a gauge of 23 stitches and 34 rows over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in Stockinette stitch.
