Product Description
Tage Cardigan in MODE at Rowan Cotton DK
What is Being Made
The Tage Cardigan is a knitted cardigan designed by Quail Studio, available in nine sizes ranging from 71-76 cm chest (28-30 inches) up to 152-157 cm chest (60-62 inches). This intermediate-level garment features a sophisticated lace pattern throughout and is constructed with a traditional button-front closure using five buttons. The cardigan is photographed in the Macaroon 011 colorway of MODE at Rowan Cotton DK yarn.
Techniques Used
The Tage Cardigan employs several key knitting techniques to create its refined appearance. Lace patterning forms the primary design element, created through strategic yarn overs and decreases that produce an open, decorative fabric. Garter stitch is used as a foundational stitch in certain sections. The pattern incorporates front neck shaping achieved through decreases worked on right-side rows, creating a fitted neckline. Button bands are integrated into the front edges to accommodate the five-button closure. The construction method involves working flat pieces (back, left front, and right front) that are subsequently assembled.
Stitches Used
- Knit (K) and Purl (P) stitches form the foundation of the fabric
- Yarn over (yf and yrn) creates the openings characteristic of lace patterns
- Knit two together (K2tog) and knit two together through back loop (K2togtbl) decrease stitches and shape the garment
- Purl two together (P2tog) and purl two together through back loop (P2togtbl) provide decreases in purl rows
- Slip, knit, pass slipped stitch over (Sl1, K1, psso) creates left-leaning decreases within the lace pattern
Materials
The Tage Cardigan is knitted using Cotton DK weight yarn, with yardage requirements ranging from 9 skeins (50 grams each) for smaller sizes up to 13 skeins for the largest sizes. The pattern specifies 4mm (US size 6) needles, including both straight needles for flat pieces and a circular needle at least 120 cm long for joining sections. The recommended tension is 18 stitches and 26 rows to 10 centimeters over the lace pattern using 4mm needles. Five buttons are required to complete the cardigan's front closure.
