What is Being Made

The Energy Pullover is a classic crewneck pullover sweater designed by Teresa Chorzepa. This garment is available in six sizes ranging from Small to 3X, with finished bust measurements from 36 inches (91.5 cm) to 56 inches (142 cm) and lengths from 23 inches (58.5 cm) to 26¾ inches (68 cm). The pullover features a structured fit with raglan sleeves and a ribbed neckband finish.

Techniques Used

This sweater is constructed using a bottom-up seamed method, meaning the body and sleeves are knitted separately starting from the lower edges and worked upward, then assembled together. The pieces are worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing for traditional seaming at the raglan armholes, side seams, and sleeve seams. The neckband is worked in the round using a circular needle after the body pieces are joined. This construction method provides excellent shaping control and creates clean, professional seams throughout the garment.

Stitches Used

• Stockinette Stitch (St st) – The primary stitch used throughout most of the sweater, created by knitting on right-side rows and purling on wrong-side rows. This produces the classic smooth, V-textured fabric commonly seen in pullover sweaters.
• Reverse Stockinette Stitch (Rev St st) – Used for decorative ribbed sections and edgings, created by purling on right-side rows and knitting on wrong-side rows, producing a bumpy texture that contrasts with the stockinette sections.
• Decreases – The pattern employs K2tog (knit 2 together) and ssk/ssp (slip, slip, knit/purl) decreases to shape the raglan armholes and create fitted sleeve caps.
• Yarn Overs (yo) – Incorporated alongside decreases to create decorative eyelet details along the raglan decrease lines, adding visual interest to the shaping.
• Make 1 (M1) Increases – Used to add stitches where needed for shaping and construction.

Materials

The Energy Pullover is knitted using Tahki Yarns FLIRT, a blend yarn containing 32% nylon, 26% wool, 25% acrylic, 10% cotton, and 7% viscose. This fiber composition creates a durable, elastic fabric with excellent stitch definition. The yarn is supplied in balls of 1.75 ounces (50 grams) with 92 yards (85 meters) per ball. Yardage requirements range from 10 balls for the Small size to 17 balls for the 3X size. The pattern calls for size 8 (5mm) straight needles for the main body and sleeves, plus a size 8 (5mm) circular needle measuring 16 inches (40 cm) for the neckband. The recommended gauge is 16 stitches and 22 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in Reverse Stockinette stitch. Additional supplies include stitch holders, a stitch marker, and a yarn needle for finishing and seaming.

Color and Finishing

The pattern is shown in color #02 golden girl from the Tahki Yarns FLIRT line. Finishing involves blocking all pieces to their specified measurements to ensure proper fit and drape, followed by seaming the raglan armholes, side seams, and sleeve seams using the yarn needle. The neckband is then worked in the round by transferring held stitches to the circular needle and working in pattern to create a neat, finished edge.
