Product Description

Tahki Yarns Langlee Tank is a classic yet simple scoop neck women's sweater with a vertical rib pattern knit in Whidbey. This must-have piece is essential in your spring and summer wardrobe. The sweater is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. The neckline and armhole stitches are picked up and worked in the round. Tahki Yarns Whidbey is a loosely-plied cotton blend that will give your spring and summer projects the look of tweed without the weight of wool. The vertical rib pattern is in written form only.

Tahki Yarns Langlee Tank

What is Being Made

The Langlee Tank is a sleeveless knitted top designed by Teresa Chorzepa. This garment is available in five sizes ranging from X-Small to X-Large, with finished bust measurements from 31¼ inches (79.5 cm) to 50½ inches (128 cm) and length measurements from 21¼ inches (54 cm) to 23¾ inches (60.5 cm). The sample shown is knitted in size Small.

Techniques and Construction Method

The Langlee Tank is constructed using a bottom-up, seamed, and worked-flat approach, making it an excellent project for beginner knitters. The garment is worked in pieces on straight needles, then assembled using a yarn needle. Circular needles are used only for the finishing details on the neck and armhole trim. This straightforward construction method allows knitters to build confidence while creating a polished, professional-looking finished piece.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch pattern featured in the Langlee Tank is the Vertical Rib, which is worked over a multiple of 6 stitches plus 2. This stitch pattern creates visual interest and texture through a combination of knit and purl stitches arranged in a vertical orientation. The Vertical Rib pattern repeats over 4 rows and incorporates a special technique called knit 2 together but do not slip from needle (k2tog/sl), which creates a decorative decrease element within the ribbing. Additional techniques used throughout the pattern include standard decreases such as ssk (slip, slip, knit) for shaping the armholes and neckline, and knit 2 together (k2tog) for tailored fit adjustments.

Materials

The Langlee Tank is knitted using Tahki Yarns Whidbey, a luxurious blend fiber composed of 54% cotton, 23% silk, and 23% polyamide. This fiber combination provides breathability, drape, and durability ideal for a summer tank top. The yarn is supplied in balls weighing 1.75 ounces (50 grams) with 120 yards (110 meters) per ball. Depending on size, the project requires between 5 and 8 balls of yarn in color #201 bark.

Knitting needles required include US 6 (4.0 mm) straight needles for the main body of the garment and US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles measuring 16 inches long for working the neck and armhole trim in the round. A yarn needle is needed for seaming the finished pieces together. The recommended gauge is 20 stitches and 26 rows over 4 inches (10 centimeters) when working in the Vertical Rib pattern on the right side.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as Easy, making it suitable for knitters with basic skills. The straightforward bottom-up construction, simple shaping techniques, and repetitive stitch pattern allow beginners to develop their knitting abilities while completing a wearable garment.
