Product Description

Tahki Yarns Shiloh Pullover, designed by Andi Javori, is a fun stripey women’s sweater that is as much fun to knit as it is to wear using Cotton Classic. Tahki Yarns Shiloh Pullover

What is Being Made

The Shiloh Pullover is a knitted sweater designed by Andi Javori, available in five sizes ranging from Small to 2X. This pullover features a classic crew neckline and is constructed with a combination of solid and striped sections. The finished bust measurements range from 40 inches (101.5 cm) for the Small size up to 52 inches (132 cm) for the 2X size, with corresponding lengths from 21 inches (53.5 cm) to 27 inches (68.5 cm).

Techniques Used

The Shiloh Pullover employs several key knitting techniques to create its structure and design:

  • Bottom-up construction: The sweater is knitted from the bottom edge upward, allowing for easy adjustments to length during the knitting process.
  • Worked flat and in the round: The body and sleeves are worked flat on straight needles, while the neckband is worked in the round using a circular needle.
  • Seamed assembly: Pieces are seamed together after completion, creating clean, finished edges.
  • Striped sections: The design incorporates color changes and striping patterns, with yarn strands carried alongside the work to maintain continuity across striped sections.
  • Neck shaping: The neckline is shaped through strategic bind-offs and decreases, with separate balls of yarn used to work both sides simultaneously for symmetrical shaping.

Stitches Used

The Shiloh Pullover features the Ridge Rib Stitch as its primary stitch pattern, worked across striped color sections. The pattern incorporates standard decreases and increases for shaping:

  • K2tog (Knit 2 together): A right-leaning decrease used for shaping.
  • Ssk or ssp (Slip, slip, knit or purl): A left-leaning decrease for balanced shaping.
  • M1L or M1 (Make 1 left): An increase worked by lifting the strand between stitches and working through the back loop to prevent holes.

Materials and Gauge

The Shiloh Pullover is knitted using Tahki Yarns COTTON CLASSIC, a 100% mercerized cotton yarn. Each skein contains 1.75 ounces (50 grams) and measures 108 yards (100 meters). The pattern calls for three coordinating shades of blue:

  • Color #3856 Deep Indigo (A): 2 to 4 skeins depending on size
  • Color #3876 Dark French Blue (B): 6 to 10 skeins depending on size
  • Color #3812 Light Blue (C): 3 to 4 skeins depending on size

The pattern is worked on US size 8 (5mm) needles, including straight needles for the body and a 24-inch (60 cm) circular needle for the neckband. The recommended gauge is 20 stitches and 29 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in Ridge Rib Stitch. Additional supplies include stitch markers and a yarn needle for seaming and finishing.

Difficulty Level

The Shiloh Pullover is rated as an Easy pattern, making it suitable for beginner to intermediate knitters. The straightforward construction, basic shaping techniques, and clear stitch definitions make this an accessible project for those developing their knitting skills.
