Product Description

The Tahoe Pullover from Tahki Yarns is a stylish and sophisticated sweater with cables criss-crossing the body and ribbing running down the sleeves. This top-down sweater is knit in the round beginning with the funnel neck and transitioning to the raglan yoke before dividing for the body and sleeves. The body and sleeves continue down in the round and complete your sweater—no finishing required! Reno yarn is a soft and luxurious blend of Merino wool and bamboo with a touch of yak and polyamide added. Reno has a delicate sheen, slight halo, and a silky smooth feel that’s amazing for next to the skin sweaters. Add graceful style and instant elegance to any outfit when you add the Tahoe Pullover! Cable pattern is both charted and written out.

Tahki Yarns Tahoe Pullover: Seamless Top-Down Cable Knit Sweater

What Is Being Made

The Tahoe Pullover is an advanced-level pullover sweater designed by Andi Javori. This garment is available in five sizes ranging from Small to 2X, with finished bust measurements from 33½ inches (85cm) to 49¼ inches (125cm) and lengths from 21½ inches (54.5cm) to 25¾ inches (65.5cm). The sweater is designed to fit with negative ease of 0–1 inch (0–2.5cm), making it a fitted style. This is a classic pullover construction ideal for creating a polished, everyday knit garment.

Techniques Used

The Tahoe Pullover employs several advanced knitting techniques that make it suitable for experienced knitters. The sweater is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down, a construction method that eliminates the need for seaming and creates a smooth, professional finish. This technique begins at the neckline and progresses downward, allowing for easy fit adjustments as you work. The yoke is worked using circular needles, and the pattern notes that the sweater is divided at the bottom of the armholes, with the body and sleeves worked separately after this division. This construction approach provides excellent control over fit and shaping throughout the garment.

Stitches Used

The Tahoe Pullover features two primary stitch patterns:

  • K2, P2 Rib: A classic ribbed pattern worked on a multiple of 4 stitches, alternating knit and purl stitches in groups of two. This stitch creates vertical columns that provide elasticity and structure, commonly used in cuffs and waistbands.
  • Crossed Cable Pattern: A more complex stitch pattern worked on a multiple of 8 stitches plus 6 additional stitches. This 16-round repeat pattern combines ribbed sections (Rounds 1–6, 8–14, and 16) with cable crossings. The cable element features a 2/2/2 Right Cross (2/2/2 RC) technique, which involves slipping 4 stitches to a cable needle, holding it to the back, knitting 2 stitches, then manipulating the cable needle stitches by slipping the 3rd and 4th stitches back to the left-hand needle to hold in front before purling 2 stitches. This creates an intricate crossed cable texture that adds visual interest and dimension to the sweater.

Materials and Tools

The Tahoe Pullover is knitted using Tahki Yarns Reno, a premium blend fiber containing 45% merino wool, 37% bamboo, 10% yak, and 8% polyamide. Each skein weighs 50 grams (1.75 ounces) and provides 110 yards (99 meters) of yardage. The project requires 13 to 20 skeins depending on size, with the smallest size (Small) requiring 13 skeins and the largest size (2X) requiring 20 skeins. The color used in the pattern is #6453 sand, a neutral shade suitable for versatile styling.

Essential tools include US size 7 (4.5mm) circular needles measuring 32 inches (80cm) long for the main body work, one set of US size 7 (4.5mm) double-pointed needles for working smaller circumferences such as sleeves, and a US size 6 (4.00mm) circular needle measuring 24 inches (60cm) long for ribbed sections where a tighter gauge is required. Additional supplies include a cable needle for manipulating cable stitches, stitch markers (with one in a unique color to mark the beginning of rounds), stitch holders or waste yarn for holding stitches, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge and Blocking

Achieving proper gauge is essential for this advanced project. The pattern specifies 25½ stitches and 29 rounds equal 4 inches (10cm) in the Crossed Cable Pattern when worked with the larger needles and blocked. For ribbed sections, the gauge is 28½ stitches and 29 rounds equal 4 inches (10cm) in 2x2 Rib with the larger needles, also blocked. Knitters are strongly advised to take time to check gauges before beginning, as gauge variations will significantly affect the final fit of this fitted garment.
