Product Description
Tahki Yarns Truro Tank is a stunning women’s sleeveless textured pullover knit in Cotton Classic, a machine-washable and stay-cool cotton fiber that is ideal for everything from warm weather sweaters to market bags and baby blankets. The tank is knit flat from the bottom up in four pieces, beginning each piece with a provision cast-on. After seaming, the seed stitch bottom border is added. The neck edging stitches are picked up along the neck edge and worked in the round. The textured stitches are both charted and written out.

Tahki Yarns Truro Tank
What is Being Made
The Truro Tank is a sleeveless pullover top designed by Therese Chynoweth. This intermediate-level knitting project is available in six sizes ranging from Small to 3XL, with finished bust measurements from 36 inches (91.5cm) to 56 inches (142cm) and lengths from 21½ inches (54.6cm) to 26 inches (66cm). The garment is designed to fit with 2–4 inches of positive ease, making it a comfortable, relaxed-fitting tank suitable for layering or wearing on its own.
Techniques Used
The Truro Tank employs multiple advanced knitting techniques that contribute to its intermediate difficulty rating. The garment is worked flat on straight needles, meaning pieces are knitted in rows rather than in the round. Seaming is used to join the various pieces together after knitting is complete. The design features stranded colorwork, incorporating a two-color slip stitch pattern that adds visual interest and texture to the finished piece. This combination of techniques creates a sophisticated, multi-dimensional fabric.
Stitches Used
The Truro Tank incorporates several distinct stitch patterns to create varied textures throughout the garment:
- Stockinette Stitch (St st) – The foundational stitch, created by knitting on right-side rows and purling on wrong-side rows, forming the smooth, classic knit fabric base
- Sand Rib – A textured rib pattern worked over a multiple of 2 stitches plus 1, alternating knit and purl stitches to create a subtle ribbed effect
- Wavy Rib – A more complex rib pattern worked over 6 rows that combines knit and purl stitches to create a wavy, undulating texture
- Two-Color Slip Stitch Pattern – A stranded colorwork technique that incorporates two colors to create visual patterns through strategic slip stitches
- Slip Stitch Lozenge Pattern – A decorative pattern using slip stitches to form lozenge or diamond shapes
- Seed Stitch – A textured stitch created by alternating knit and purl stitches in a checkerboard pattern
Standard decreases including K2tog (knit 2 together) and ssk (slip, slip, knit) are used for shaping, while M1L (make 1 left) increases are employed for garment construction.
Materials and Tools
The Truro Tank is knitted using Tahki Yarns COTTON CLASSIC, a 100% mercerized cotton yarn. The yardage requirements vary by size: 4 to 7 skeins of the main color #3928 light lavender are needed, along with 2 to 4 skeins of the contrasting color #3932 amethyst. Each skein contains 1.75 ounces (50 grams) and yields 108 yards (100 meters), making this a worsted-weight cotton yarn ideal for summer garments.
Knitting needles required include US size 6 (4mm) straight needles for the main garment pieces and US size 6 (4mm) circular needles in both 16-inch (40cm) and 32-inch (80cm) lengths for finishing trims. A size F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook is also needed for certain finishing details. Additional supplies include stitch markers, four small stitch holders, scrap yarn for provisional cast-ons or holding stitches, a yarn needle for weaving in ends and seaming, and one button for closure details.
Gauge Information
Achieving proper gauge is essential for this project. The pattern specifies multiple gauge measurements depending on the stitch pattern being worked: 19 stitches and 26 rows equal 4 inches (10cm) in Stockinette Stitch; 19½ stitches and 27 rows equal 4 inches in Sand Rib; 19½ stitches and 35 rows equal 4 inches in Two-Color Slip Stitch and Slip Stitch Lozenge patterns; 19½ stitches and 26 rows equal 4 inches in Wavy Rib; and 18 stitches equal 4 inches in
