Product Description
Tahki Yarns Walker Cardigan is a gorgeously textured women’s sweater. The body of the cardigan is knit in one piece from the bottom to the underarms, and the fronts and back are worked separately and seamed at the shoulders. The back and sleeves are knit in moss stitch, and the moss stitch on the fronts is broken up by the stunning cable panels and pockets. Tahki Yarns Classic Superwash is a machine-washable and dryable DK weight yarn, allowing you to reach for this cardigan time and time again. The cable pattern is both written and charted.

What is Being Made
The Walker Cardigan is an intermediate-level knitted cardigan designed by Susan Mills. This garment is available in five sizes ranging from Extra Small to Extra Large, with finished bust measurements from 36 inches (91.5 cm) to 52 inches (132 cm) and a length of approximately 29 to 31 inches (73.5 to 78.5 cm). The cardigan features a classic button-front closure design with integrated pockets, making it a versatile layering piece suitable for everyday wear.
Techniques Used
The Walker Cardigan is constructed using several key knitting techniques that define its intermediate difficulty level. The garment is worked flat on circular needles rather than in the round, allowing for easy shaping and construction. The cardigan is knitted bottom-up, meaning construction begins at the lower edge and progresses toward the neckline, which provides greater control over fit and length adjustments. The finished pieces are seamed together, creating clean, professional-looking joins at the side seams and sleeve attachments. Cable work is prominently featured throughout the design, with decorative cable panels running vertically down the front and back of the garment, adding visual interest and texture to the finished piece.
Stitches Used
The pattern incorporates several essential stitches and stitch patterns. Moss stitch forms the primary fabric throughout much of the cardigan body, creating a textured, reversible fabric that measures 20 stitches and 29 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) on size 6 (4mm) needles. K2, P2 Ribbing is used for the cuffs and lower edge, providing elasticity and a finished appearance. The defining feature of the Walker Cardigan is its Cable Panels, which are 36 stitches wide and measure 4 inches (10 cm) across. These panels incorporate multiple cable techniques, including C4B (cable 4 back: slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in back, knit 2, then knit 2 from cable needle), C4F (cable 4 front: slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in front, knit 2, then knit 2 from cable needle), and C6B (cable 6 back: slip 3 stitches to cable needle and hold in back, knit 3, then knit 3 from cable needle). These cable techniques create the characteristic twisted rope-like texture that distinguishes cable knit garments.
Materials
The Walker Cardigan is knitted using Tahki Yarns CLASSIC SUPERWASH, a 100% superwash wool yarn. Yardage requirements range from 8 skeins for the Extra Small size to 11 skeins for the Large, Extra Large, and XL sizes. Each skein contains 3.5 ounces (100 grams) and provides 218 yards (199 meters) of yarn. The pattern calls for the charcoal colorway (#04). Construction requires two circular needles: a size 6 (4mm) circular needle measuring 32 inches (80 cm) for the main body, and a size 5 (3.75mm) circular needle of the same length for ribbed sections. Additional tools include one pair each of size 6 (4mm) and size 5 (3.75mm) straight needles for pocket construction, a cable needle for executing cable stitches, stitch holders and markers for managing stitches during construction, and a yarn needle for seaming and finishing.
