What is Being Made

The sweater is a classic crew-neck pullover style suitable for everyday wear.

Techniques Used

Construction Method: The Windward Pullover is worked bottom-up, meaning knitting begins at the lower edge and progresses upward toward the neckline. This construction method allows for easy fitting adjustments during the knitting process.

Colorwork: The design features stripes created using two colors from the Tahki Yarns TIBURON yarn line. Color A (silver) forms the primary color, while Color B (burgundy) creates the striped pattern throughout the garment.

Circular Knitting: The sweater is worked in the round using circular needles, which creates seamless fabric and eliminates the need for seaming on the body and sleeves. This technique produces a more polished, professional finish.

Shaping Techniques: The pattern employs short rows with the wrap and turn (W&T) method to create custom shaping, particularly for sleeve cap and shoulder shaping. The wrap and turn technique involves slipping a stitch to the right-hand needle, bringing the working yarn to the opposite side, slipping the same stitch back to the left-hand needle, and returning the working yarn to create a wrapped stitch that prevents holes when turning the work mid-row.

Yardage requirements range from 770 yards (7 balls in color A for XS) to 1,430 yards (13 balls in color A for 3X), with 220 to 440 yards of the contrast color B depending on size.

Needles: The pattern requires multiple needle sizes to accommodate different gauges and techniques. A size 6 (4 mm) circular needle measuring 32 inches (80 cm) long serves as the primary needle for working the body in the round. Additional size 6 (4 mm) needles in the knitter's preferred style for small circumference knitting in the round are needed for sleeve work. A smaller size 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle measuring 16 inches (40 cm) long is used for the cuff and neck edging to create a tighter, more elastic finish at these edges.
