Trendsetter Yarns U Milos & Spirit - Striped Eyelet Wrap

What Is Being Made

This is a sophisticated striped eyelet wrap measuring 15 inches wide by 72 inches long, designed by Barry Klein. The wrap combines two distinct yarns and stitch patterns to create visual and textural interest, making it an elegant accessory suitable for layering in cooler weather. The finished piece celebrates soft fibers and luxurious textures from the Trendsetter Yarns collection.

Knitting Techniques Used

This wrap is constructed using several key knitting techniques that work together to create its distinctive appearance:

  • Bottom-up construction: The wrap is worked from the cast-on edge upward to the desired length, allowing you to customize the final dimensions as you knit.
  • Seamless, flat knitting: The entire piece is worked flat on straight needles without seaming, creating a continuous fabric from edge to edge.
  • Lace elements: Eyelet stitches are incorporated to create an openwork pattern that adds airiness and visual appeal to portions of the wrap.
  • Two-yarn striping: The pattern alternates between two different yarns—Trendsetter Milos and Trendsetter Spirit—with each yarn worked in its own designated stitch pattern. The designer recommends cutting and reattaching yarn between color repeats rather than carrying it across, as the distance between changes is substantial.
  • Finishing technique: Single crochet edging is worked around the entire perimeter using an F crochet hook to provide a polished, finished edge.

Stitches Used

The wrap employs two primary stitch patterns that alternate throughout the design:

  • Reverse Stockinette Stitch (Rev. Stock St.): Created by purling on right-side rows and knitting on wrong-side rows, this stitch produces a smooth, textured surface. In this wrap, Reverse Stockinette is worked for 20 consecutive rows using Trendsetter Milos yarn, creating substantial blocks of solid texture.
  • Eyelet Stitch: This lace pattern incorporates yarn overs and knit-two-together decreases to create small decorative holes throughout the fabric. The eyelet pattern is worked over 10 rows using Trendsetter Spirit yarn, with specific yarn-over and decrease placements on rows 3, 5, and 7 creating a regular, repeating openwork design.
  • Single Crochet: Applied as an edging finish around the entire wrap perimeter to secure edges and provide a professional appearance.

Materials and Gauge

The wrap is knitted on U.S. size #8 needles and finished with an F crochet hook. Two premium yarns from Trendsetter Yarns are used in combination:

  • Trendsetter Milos #517: Three 50-gram balls are required for the solid striped sections worked in Reverse Stockinette Stitch.
  • Trendsetter Spirit #3052: Three 25-gram balls are required for the lace striped sections worked in Eyelet Stitch.

The gauge is established at 18 stitches over 4 inches when working Reverse Stockinette Stitch with size #8 needles and Trendsetter Milos yarn. Maintaining this gauge is essential for achieving the intended finished dimensions of 15 inches by 72 inches. The pattern begins with a cast-on of 63 stitches and alternates between 20-row blocks of Milos in Reverse Stockinette and 10-row blocks of Spirit in Eyelet Stitch, repeating this sequence until the desired length is reached.
