What is Being Made

Cedar Hill is a loose-fitting, hip-length open vest designed by Nikki Wagner. This knitted garment features a small Trellis stitch pattern on the front and back panels, creating visual texture and interest. The vest is available in nine sizes ranging from 32 ½ inches to 64 ½ inches in bust measurement, with finished lengths between 29 ¾ and 31 ¾ inches. The design is intended to be worn with 2 inches of ease for comfortable layering over other garments.

Construction Techniques

Cedar Hill is worked using a bottom-up construction method, meaning the knitter begins at the lower edge and works upward toward the shoulders. The vest is worked flat in separate pieces rather than in the round, allowing for easier stitch manipulation and pattern work. Once all pieces are completed, they are seamed together to create the finished garment. This modular approach makes the project manageable and allows for precise shaping at the armholes and neckline.

The vest features an exaggerated trim worked in Stockinette stitch along the inside front edges and neck, providing a refined finishing detail. An applied I-cord trim is worked around the armholes for a polished edge. The pattern includes specific instructions for slip stitch techniques: all stitches are slipped knitwise with yarn in back on right-side rows and purlwise with yarn in back on wrong-side rows, unless otherwise directed.
