The finished shawl measures approximately 48 inches in wingspan and 15½ inches in depth, making it a versatile accessory suitable for layering or wearing as a statement piece.

Construction Method

The shawl is worked from the border up using a seamless, flat knitting technique. The crescent shape is achieved through strategic short-row shaping, which creates elegant curves and dimension. The design incorporates a picot cast-on edge for a refined, decorative border. The pattern utilizes five distinct color shades, labeled A through E, progressing from darkest to lightest, allowing crafters to create a beautiful ombre or gradient effect across the finished piece.

The pattern includes specific alignment notes, such as ensuring that P5 in Row 1 of Chart B aligns directly over the wrap stitches from Row 15 of Chart A, demonstrating the precision required for proper shaping.

Materials and Specifications

Yarn: The pattern calls for one kit of Tahki Yarns Cotton Classic Colorworks, which provides 540 yards (494 meters) total across five skeins of 8¾ ounces (250 grams) each. The yarn is 100% mercerized cotton, offering a smooth, lustrous finish ideal for lace work and warm-weather wear. The sample shown uses Purple Majesty in five coordinating shades.

Needles: Size 6 US (4 mm) circular needle, 60 inches (150 cm) long or longer, accommodates the width of the shawl and allows for comfortable working of the flat construction.

Gauge: 20½ stitches and 26 rows equal 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch after blocking. Crafters should adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge, though the pattern notes that correct gauge is not critical for this design.

Color Sequence and Yarn Management
