A symbol of bravery, the red sardonyx has been used for protection by the ancient Romans; the gem is also said to embody happiness, confidence, and optimism. Named for this fascinating gem, Sardonyx from Twist Collective is a comfortably relaxed cardigan featuring interesting all-over cables. The cable pattern may look intricate, but it is easy to work and creates a richly textured fabric that looks great on both sides. Designed to be worn with draped open fronts, the cardigan can be belted or pinned with a your favorite shawl pin.

Sardonyx is worked in pieces from the top down with modified drop shoulders, then sewn together. The seams provide support for the dense fabric. Stitches for the deep collar are picked up after the shoulders are seamed and worked in snuggly garter stitch along the front edges and neckline. The rib-based cables keep the bottom edges of the body and sleeves from rolling. Knit in Berroco Vintage Chunky, a machine-washable blend of acrylic, wool, and nylon, this project works up quickly, so you'll be wearing your new favorite sweater in no time!
