What is Being Made

Sugarbeach is a fitted knit sweater designed by Fiona Ellis, available in six sizes ranging from 32" to 50 ½" bust measurement. This garment is intended to be worn with negative ease of -2 to 0" / -5 to 0 cm, creating a close, body-hugging silhouette. The sweater features a finished length of 22" to 25" (56 to 63.5 cm) depending on size, making it suitable for various body proportions and style preferences.

Techniques Used

The primary technique featured in this design is cable knitting, which creates dimensional, textured patterns throughout the garment. The sweater incorporates waist shaping through strategic decreases, with a decrease row worked on the right side that reduces 2 stitches per row by using ssk (slip, slip, knit) and k2tog (knit 2 together) decreases. The yardage requirements vary by size: 7 balls are needed for the smallest sizes (32" and 34 ½"), while the largest size (50 ½") requires 11 balls. The cotton-microfiber blend provides breathability and structure suitable for a fitted sweater design.

Needles: The pattern calls for Size 7 US / 4.5 mm straight knitting needles for the main fabric, as well as a Size 7 US / 4.5 mm circular needle measuring 16" / 40 cm long. Knitters are advised to adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge, ensuring that finished measurements match the pattern specifications.
