Universal Yarn Autumn Wonder eBook Wrap Knitting Pattern

Project Overview

The Autumn Wonder eBook from Universal Yarn features five charming knitting patterns designed for fall, with a focus on wraps and sweaters. This collection includes the Brezza sweater, designed by Rachel Brockman, a timeless wardrobe staple that combines elegant lace detailing with classic construction techniques suitable for knitters of all experience levels.

Brezza Sweater Design

The Brezza is an easy-difficulty knitting project available in nine sizes ranging from Extra Small through 5X, making it accessible for various body types. The finished measurements span from a 34¼-inch bust for Extra Small to 66¾ inches for the largest size, with corresponding length measurements from 19½ inches to 25¼ inches. This versatile sweater features lace panels positioned on either side of reverse stockinette stitch, creating visual interest while maintaining the simplicity of construction.

Construction Techniques

The Brezza sweater employs several classic knitting techniques to achieve its polished appearance. The body is worked in the round until the underarms, where construction switches to flat knitting. Shoulders are joined using the three-needle bind-off method, a technique that creates a strong, seamless connection between front and back pieces. The sleeves are worked flat and then sewn to the body using traditional seaming methods. Stitches for the neck edging are picked up and worked in the round, providing a finished edge that frames the neckline.

Stitches and Stitch Techniques

The pattern incorporates several key stitches and techniques:

  • Reverse Stockinette Stitch (Rev St st) – The primary stitch for the main body sections, creating a smooth, textured fabric
  • Lace Panel Pattern – Decorative lace sections worked on either side of the reverse stockinette
  • Left Twist (LT) – A twisted stitch worked by knitting the second stitch on the left needle through the back loop, then knitting the first stitch through the front loop before slipping both stitches from the needle
  • Right Twist (RT) – Executed as a knit-two-together without slipping the stitch from the needle, followed by knitting the first stitch again and slipping both stitches
  • P1 K1 Twisted Rib – Used for the neck edging to create a refined finished edge
  • Sloped Bind-off – A specialized bind-off technique that begins by slipping the last stitch of the row before bind-off, then continuing with a slip-two, pass-slipped-stitch-over method on the bind-off row

Yarn and Materials

The Brezza sweater is designed to be knitted in Universal Yarn Wool Pop, a versatile blend consisting of 50% bamboo, 35% superwash wool, and 15% polyamide. Each skein provides 284 yards and weighs 100 grams. The pattern calls for the color 602 Cream, with yardage requirements ranging from 4 skeins for Extra Small sizes to 8 skeins for the largest sizes.

Needles and Gauge

The pattern requires US Size 5 (3.75 mm) needles for the main body, available in both straight and 32-inch circular options, along with US Size 4 (3.5 mm) needles in straight and 16-inch circular formats for ribbing and edging. The gauge is critical for proper fit: 24 stitches by 32 rows equals 4 inches in Reverse Stockinette Stitch using the larger needles, while 30 stitches by 32 rounds equals 4 inches in the Lace Panel pattern also using the larger needles. Knitters are advised to swatch and check gauge before beginning to ensure accurate finished measurements.

Additional Notions

Beyond yarn and needles, the pattern requires a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming sleeves, stitch holders or waste yarn for holding stitches during construction, and stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points throughout the project.
