Product Description
Valley Yarns Bryce Canyon is a striking women’s pullover featuring a mosaic border above the hem and the cuffs knit in Ashfield. The tee top is perfect for the day at the office and then a night out on the town. Bryce Canyon is knit in the round from the bottom up to the underarms. The elbow-length sleeves are worked from the armhole edge in the round to the cuffs. Valley Yarns Ashfield is a silky soft, and smooth blend of fine Merino wool and bamboo viscose that offers beautiful drape and sheen. The mosaic pattern is charted and written out.

Valley Yarns Bryce Canyon Knit Sweater
What Is Being Made
The Bryce Canyon is a stylish knit tee designed by Julie Turjoman, featuring a graceful mosaic border pattern at the hem and short sleeve edges with a scoop neckline. This intermediate-level pullover is available in nine sizes ranging from XS to 5XL, with finished bust measurements from 35¼" to 64". The sweater is designed to be worn with 2–4 inches of positive ease and falls at the hip, with shaping at both the waist and bust for a flattering fit.
Techniques Used
The Bryce Canyon employs multiple construction techniques to create its finished design. The body is worked in the round from the bottom up, allowing for seamless construction and efficient knitting. At the armholes, the piece is divided and worked flat back and forth to the shoulders before being joined together. Stripes and mosaic patterning are incorporated as decorative elements at the hem and sleeve edges, creating visual interest with contrasting colors. The elbow-length sleeves are worked down from the armholes in the round, with stitches cast on at each end to establish the sleeve cap. The mosaic pattern is reversible, reading the same whether worked from bottom to top or top to bottom, adding design flexibility.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch throughout the Bryce Canyon is stockinette stitch, which provides a smooth, clean fabric that showcases the yarn's hand and stitch definition. The decorative mosaic pattern panels appear at the hem and sleeve cuffs, creating a geometric border effect. The pattern uses standard knitting abbreviations and techniques appropriate for an intermediate skill level, including increases and decreases for shaping, as well as techniques for joining rounds and managing color changes within the mosaic design.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The Bryce Canyon is designed to showcase Valley Yarns Ashfield, a premium blend of 67% fine merino wool and 33% bamboo viscose. Yarn quantities vary by size: the main color (MC) in Golden Wheat requires 7–15 hanks depending on size, while the contrasting color (CC) in Medium Gray requires 2–3 hanks. Each hank contains 50 grams and yields 117 yards.
The pattern calls for multiple needle sizes to achieve proper gauge and construction. US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles in 16", 32–40" lengths are used for the main body and sleeves worked in the round, along with double-pointed needles (dpns) for smaller circumferences. US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles in 24" and 32–40" lengths are used for the neckline and hem ribbing, with 9–12" circular needles or dpns for sleeve cuffs. The recommended gauge is 20 stitches and 28 rounds over 4 inches in stockinette stitch on the larger needles when blocked. The mosaic panel measures 3½" wide by 3¾" high over 18 stitches and 42 rounds.
Additional materials include stitch markers (one in a unique color to mark the beginning of round, plus four locking stitch markers for larger sizes), stitch holders or waste yarn for managing stitches during construction, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming if needed.
