The design combines a simple garter stitch base with decorative intarsia color blocks, creating visual interest while maintaining an understated aesthetic suitable for modern nurseries.

Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project employs two primary techniques to achieve its finished look:

• Intarsia: The blanket features intarsia blocks worked in contrasting colors throughout the design. When working intarsia, the crafter must bring new yarn up from underneath the working yarn when changing colors to prevent holes in the fabric. The pattern recommends using markers between color changes to keep track of transitions and maintain consistency across rows.
• Worked Flat: The blanket is constructed by working flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing for straightforward row-by-row construction with clear right-side and wrong-side rows.
• Crochet Edging: A crocheted chain edging finishes the perimeter of the knitted blanket, adding a polished border detail.

Stitches Used

Materials

Yarn: Valley Yarns Haydenville is used throughout this project. This yarn is composed of 60% Superwash Merino and 40% Acrylic Microfiber, offering both softness and practical washability for a baby blanket. Each 100-gram skein yields 220 yards. The project requires 4 skeins of color 04 Light Grey as the main color (MC), plus 1 skein each of three contrasting colors: 17 Red Clay (CC1), 08 Navy (CC2), and 02 Natural (CC3).

Needles and Hooks: US size 8 (5.00 mm) knitting needles are specified for the main blanket construction, though crafters should use the size needed to achieve the correct gauge. An H / 8 (5.00 mm) crochet hook or a size comparable to the needles used completes the edging.

Pattern Structure

The blanket is constructed in distinct sections. After casting on 132 stitches, the crafter begins with 24 rows worked entirely in the main color (MC). The pattern then introduces three separate intarsia color blocks, each worked for 48 rows. Each color block section features the contrasting color worked in repeating blocks across the width of the blanket, with the main color forming the background and structural framework.
