Product Description

Light and airy, Valley Yarns Southampton is a plush and super-soft blend of mohair and silk with a fabulous halo! Southampton can be worked at multiple gauges and with one to three strands, for fabrics ranging from lacy and open to more substantial. Even lacy shawls are warm when made in this yarn, which comes in spectacular solid colors that seem to glow. Southampton also works well held with another yarn to add extra softness and luxury to projects from cowls and wraps to cardigans and pullovers!

Affordable and reliable

So many of the patterns I want to knit call for mohair held together with a fingering weight wool. A lot of mohair on the market is stiff and uncomfortable. I knit a hat for my daughter but she wasn’t able to wear it because the mohair in it made her forehead itch when she shoveled snow or whatever activity that worked up perspiration Southampton is much different. It’s soft and not at all abrasive. An added bonus is that Southampton is so much more affordable when compared to other mohair on...

Affordable Addition

I am embracing holding mohair with a lace weight to knit some popular sweater patterns. This doubles the cost of yarn in each sweater. So far I am very pleased with my results. Nice quality and a good feel in the hand. Not tooo fuzzy!

So soft

I paired the white with an advent to create a raglan sweater. It is so warm and cozy. Will definitely buy this yarn again.

I've not yet finished the sweater, but it is the second Color Rain sweater (8 strands of this stuff--see Ravelry) I have knit with Southampton. While not the softest mohair silk I've used, it doesn't shed badly or pill. I've worn first sweater often (as outerwear, with a purse, etc.) and it still looks as good as when I pulled it off the drying rack.

I’ve used this yarn before and it produces a lovely result on its own or paired with other yarns. I paired this with a tweed yarn I bought earlier from Web’s to produce a halo effect and to soften the tweed. I designed a gorgeous but very delicate asymmetrical poncho with Southampton yarn, various color stripes and a beret with the leftovers as well as an ethereal sweater. It also made a beautiful scarf from a California designer as well. I love the warmth of mohair and wish Web’s would produce...

Exquisitely soft and silky. Absolutely no problem with itching when worn against the skin. Delicate lace weight yarn with just a touch of haze, courtesy of the mohair, but beautiful definition by the silk component to make it perfect for lace work.

For the price, I like this yarn. I have used yarn of better quality but couldn't afford it for this project.

This is a beautiful soft silky yarn, much like Rowan, it’s got a beautiful halo but costs less. Same quality and just as beautiful.

Good yarn for the price and good stitch definition. Time will tell on durability.
