What is Being Made

The Verandah Pullover is a contemporary knitted sweater from the Fall Kirk Collection, designed by Pamela Wynne. This pullover features a distinctive construction method where the garment is worked in four separate pieces, each containing one quarter of the body plus one half of a dolman sleeve. The pieces are then joined together with exposed seams along the sleeves, center front, and center back, creating a striking architectural design element. The sweater is available in seven sizes ranging from XS to 3X, with finished body measurements from 44 inches to 68 inches (112 to 173 centimeters) and length measurements from 24¼ inches to 27½ inches (61.5 to 70 centimeters). The design is intended to be worn with 10 to 14 inches of positive ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit.

Techniques Used

This knitting project employs several intermediate-level techniques that create visual interest and structural integrity. The sweater utilizes increase stitches worked with M1R (Make 1 Right) and M1L (Make 1 Left) methods, which create invisible increases by picking up the strand between stitches and knitting through the appropriate loop. The pattern incorporates decrease stitches using k2tog (knit two together) to shape the garment. Stitches Used

Materials

The Verandah Pullover is designed to be knitted with Juniper Moon Farm Findley DK Dappled yarn in the colorway #108 It's Smokin. The yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from 6 hanks for the smallest size (XS) to 11 hanks for the largest size (3X). Findley DK is a DK-weight yarn, which is a medium-light yarn suitable for creating garments with good drape and structure. The needles required include US 6 (4mm) circular needles in both 16-inch and 32-inch lengths, a set of five US 6 (4mm) double-pointed needles for working small circumferences, and a US 7 (4.5mm) needle for binding off. Additionally, 1 yard (1 meter) of 2mm elastic cord is needed for finishing the cuffs, providing stretch and security at the wrist openings.
