What is Being Made

The Warmth Sweater is a knitted pullover garment designed by Lisa Richardson and crafted using Rowan Cotton Revive yarn. This sweater is available in nine size options, ranging from chest measurements of 71-76 cm (28 inches) up to 152-157 cm (60 inches), with corresponding actual garment chest measurements from 46¼ inches to 77¾ inches. The sweater features a classic crew neckline with structured shaping at the front neck and shoulders, making it a versatile layering piece suitable for various occasions.

Craft and Techniques

This is a knitting project classified at intermediate difficulty level. The sweater construction involves several key knitting techniques including cast-on methods, shaping through strategic decreases and increases, pattern work maintenance, and structured shoulder and neck shaping. The garment is worked in pieces (back, front, and sleeves) that are subsequently assembled, a common approach in sweater construction that allows for precise fit and detailed shaping.

The front neck shaping is accomplished through a series of decreases worked at the neck edge over multiple rows and alternate rows, creating a gradual, professional-looking neckline. Shoulder shaping is achieved through strategic cast-offs at the beginning of rows, worked in combination with additional neck edge decreases to create proper garment structure. The pattern requires careful attention to maintaining stitch counts and working decreases in the correct sequence to achieve the intended fit across all nine size options.

Stitches Used

Materials and Tools

The Warmth Sweater is crafted using Rowan Cotton Revive yarn, a 100-gram ball weight. The yarn is worked at a tension of 25 stitches and 34 rows to 10 centimeters when measured over stockinette stitch using the larger needles.

Two pairs of needles are required for this project:

• 3¼mm needles (US size 3): Used for casting on and working the garter stitch edging
• 3¾mm needles (US size 5): Used for the main body of the sweater where the tension is measured and pattern stitches are worked

The pattern includes provisions for a neckband, which requires slipping stitches onto a holder during construction. The sweater photographed in the pattern is shown in the Ocean 008 colorway of Rowan Cotton Revive, though the pattern is suitable for any color option within this yarn line.
