Bead Your Knitting, Garter Stitch Cuffs - Fall 2026 - Virtual

Based on traditional Lithuanian Beaded cuffs called Riešinės, these beaded cuffs are knit with DK weight yarn and 6/0 seed beads (as opposed to the traditional fingering or lace weight yarn on 00 or 000 needles), making them quick and addictive to knit, with endless opportunities for creativity. We will go over all aspects of making these traditional cuffs, from adding the beads and tracking your place in the pattern, to seaming the cuffs when you’re done. Along the way we will learn all about seed beads and their myriad sizes, shapes, and finishes so that you can envision many different versions of these cuffs and maybe even design your own!

Format: Virtual

Prerequisite:  Knitting II, or equivalent.

Materials Required: Helena Cuffs Pattern (included) 

YARN: About 120 Yards DK weight yarn. Samples in the photos are made from Valley Yarns Westfield (gold) and Valley Yarns Northfield (black)

NEEDLES: US3/3.25mm needle

OTHER MATERIALS:

About 400 size 6/0 seed beads for both mitts. Each mitt uses 195 beads.

A Big Eye needle or other method for pre-stringing your beads.

 HOMEWORK:

There will be weekly homework assignments.
