What is Being Made

The Berroco Bao is a pair of seamless fingerless gloves designed by the Berroco Design Team. These gloves feature a fitted wrist with ribbed cuff and an open-finger design, making them ideal for keeping hands warm while maintaining dexterity. The finished gloves measure approximately 8 inches around the hand and 8 inches in length.

Craft and Techniques

This project is a knitting pattern worked entirely in the round using the seamless construction method. Working in the round eliminates the need for seaming and creates a smooth, professional finish. The pattern includes shaping techniques such as increases for the thumb gusset, which is constructed using M1L (make one left) and M1R (make one right) increases to create symmetrical shaping on either side of the gusset markers.

The gloves begin with a ribbed cuff worked in knit and purl stitches, which provides stretch and helps the gloves stay in place on the wrist. After the cuff is complete, the pattern transitions to stockinette stitch for the main hand section. The gauge is 18 stitches and 24 rounds equal 4 inches in stockinette stitch on the larger needles. Checking gauge before beginning is essential to ensure proper fit, as the finished gloves are sized to fit one size with approximately 8 inches of circumference around the hand.
