What is Being Made

The Berroco Ellery is a women's pullover sweater from the Cotolana Fall 2017 Collection, designed by the Berroco Design Team. This intermediate-level garment features a classic crew neck construction and is available in seven sizes ranging from 38¼" to 60½" bust measurement. The finished length varies from 25¼" to 28¾" depending on size selection. The design incorporates approximately 6–8" of ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit.

Construction Technique

The Ellery sweater is worked seamlessly in the round from the neck down, a modern construction method that eliminates side seams and creates a continuous garment. This top-down approach allows knitters to try on the sweater as it progresses and easily adjust the length before binding off. The seamless, in-the-round construction is particularly valued for creating smooth, professional-looking garments with minimal finishing work required.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch pattern is Waffle Stitch worked in the round, which creates a textured, dimensional fabric. The Waffle Stitch pattern repeats over 4 rounds:

• Round 1: Knit 1, purl 1 alternating around
• Round 2: Knit all stitches
• Round 3: Purl 1, knit 1 alternating around
• Round 4: Knit all stitches

This 4-round repeat creates the characteristic waffle texture throughout the body and sleeves. The pattern also incorporates lifted increases (both left lifted increase and right lifted increase) for shaping, which are invisible increases that blend seamlessly into the fabric and maintain stitch definition.

Materials and Tools

The Ellery is knitted using Berroco Cotolana yarn in the colorway #3526 Lombardy. Yardage requirements range from 12 to 21 balls (50 grams each) depending on the size selected. The pattern requires multiple needle sizes to achieve proper gauge and accommodate different sections of the garment:

• 16" and 36" circular needles in sizes 6 (4.00 mm) and 8 (5.00 mm)
• Double-pointed needles (dpns) in sizes 4 (3.50 mm) and 6 (4.00 mm) for smaller circumference sections
