What Is Being Made

The Berroco Freer is a women's knit cardigan featuring lace patterning throughout the body. The cardigan is designed with approximately 1–2" of ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit. The pattern includes a single ¾" button closure, making it a versatile layering piece suitable for various occasions and seasons.

Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques to create its finished structure. The body is worked in one piece from the bottom up to the armholes, a method that reduces seaming and creates a seamless garment. Sleeves are worked in the round using double-pointed needles to the underarms, then joined with the body for the yoke construction. The lace pattern is established using a charted design that is repeated twice during the body section, creating visual interest and texture. Stitches and Stitch Patterns

Materials: Yarn and Needles

This pattern calls for Berroco Quinoa yarn in the colorway #1003 Mushroom. Yardage requirements range from 5 to 11 balls (50 grams each) depending on the finished size selected. Berroco Quinoa is a natural fiber yarn that provides excellent drape, making it ideal for lace garments. Knitters will need a 29" circular needle in size 7 (4.50 mm) for the body and yoke, along with one set of double-pointed needles (dpns) in size 7 (4.50 mm) for sleeve construction. Additional notions include 4 stitch markers, a stitch holder for holding stitches during construction, and one ¾" button for closure.
