What is Being Made

The Gallikos is a seamless, bottom-up knitted sweater designed by Amy Christoffers from Berroco Booklet #402. This intermediate-level garment features a sophisticated lace motif panel integrated into the body, with finished bust measurements ranging from 34 inches to 64 inches and lengths from 21¾ inches to 27 inches, offering multiple size options for various body types.

Construction and Techniques

This sweater is constructed using a bottom-up, seamless approach worked in the round, which eliminates the need for seaming and creates a continuous, professional finish. The body is worked circularly from the cast-on edge up to the underarms, while sleeves are also worked in the round separately. At the underarm, the body and sleeves are joined together to work the yoke as one integrated piece, ensuring smooth transitions and proper fit at the shoulder area.

The design incorporates lace techniques through a 25-stitch charted motif panel that is strategically positioned in the body. This lace panel is repeated multiple times—chart rows 1–22 are worked 3 to 4 times depending on size, followed by rows 23–42 worked once—creating an elegant, textured vertical design element.

Stitches Used

• Reverse Stockinette Stitch (Reverse St st): Formed by purling every round, this stitch creates the smooth background fabric surrounding the lace motif and serves as the foundation for the sweater's main body

Materials and Tools

Yarn: Berroco Vibe in colorway #1555 Poppy is used for this project. The yardage requirement ranges from 5 to 11 balls of 50-gram weight yarn, depending on the finished size selected. Berroco Vibe is a versatile yarn choice that works well with the lace and stockinette stitch patterns specified in this design.

Needles and Notions: The pattern requires a 29-inch circular needle in both sizes 9 (5.50 mm) and 10½ (6.50 mm), allowing knitters to adjust needle size to achieve proper gauge. One set of double-pointed needles in each size is also needed for working the sleeves and smaller circumferences. Additional notions include stitch markers to track pattern repeats and underarm positions, a tapestry needle for finishing, and waste yarn for holding stitches temporarily.

Gauge: The pattern specifies a gauge of 15 stitches and 22 rows over 4 inches when working Reverse Stockinette Stitch and the charted pattern on the larger needle size. Achieving accurate gauge is essential for obtaining the correct finished measurements.
