Construction and Techniques
La Savina is constructed using a distinctive sideways knitting method, worked in two separate sections. Each section is knitted from the sleeve cuff toward the center front and back of the garment. The two sections are then joined together using a three-needle bind-off technique, which creates a secure seam while binding off simultaneously. This sideways approach allows for unique shaping and construction possibilities not available in traditional top-down or bottom-up methods.
The garment is worked flat on needles rather than in the round for the main body sections, with sleeves worked in the round using double-pointed needles or preferred small-circumference needles. The seamed construction provides structure and definition to the finished sweater.
