Construction Techniques

The Marit shawl is constructed using a bottom-up, seamless, worked-flat approach with a distinctive striped block pattern. The shawl is built in multiple tiers of rectangular blocks that are strategically joined together to create the triangular shawl shape. The construction method allows knitters to pick up stitches along the selvage edges of completed blocks, connecting them seamlessly without requiring seaming. Stitches and Stitch Techniques

The primary stitch used throughout the Marit is Garter Stitch, which creates a classic, textured fabric with visible horizontal ridges. The pattern incorporates several important techniques:

• SSK (Slip, Slip, Knit): A left-leaning decrease used to shape the blocks and create the shawl's triangular silhouette

Materials
