What Is Being Made

The Berroco Mended Pullover is a seamless, raglan-style pullover sweater designed by Beatrice Perron Dahlen. This intermediate-level knitting project features stranded colorwork and is constructed from the bottom up. The finished garment offers a comfortable fit with approximately 2 to 4 inches of ease, making it suitable for layering. Available in eight sizes ranging from 32 inches to 56 inches in bust measurement, with corresponding length adjustments from 22¾ inches to 27 inches.

Techniques Used

This pullover employs several advanced knitting techniques that contribute to its sophisticated construction and fit:

• Bottom-up construction: The body and sleeves are knitted separately from the cuff upward, then seamlessly joined at the underarms, eliminating the need for seaming.
• Worked in the round: The majority of the garment is knitted circularly using circular needles and double-pointed needles, creating a seamless fabric.
• Raglan-style decreases: Strategic decreases are worked in the round and as circular-style decreases to create the characteristic raglan sleeve cap shaping.

Stitches Used

The Mended Pullover utilizes fundamental and intermediate stitch techniques:

• Stockinette stitch (St st): The primary stitch throughout the garment, creating a smooth, classic fabric.
• Twisted Rib: Used for ribbed edgings, this stitch is worked by knitting through the back loop alternated with purl stitches to create a textured, elastic border.
• Left Lifted Increase (LLI): An invisible increase technique worked by inserting the left needle into the purl bump one row below the stitch just worked on the right needle and knitting into that stitch, creating a nearly invisible increase.

Materials and Tools

The Mended Pullover is designed to be knitted with Berroco Ultra Alpaca, a luxurious yarn blend. The pattern calls for 4 to 8 hanks (depending on size) of the main color in #62174 Dungaree Mix, along with 1 hank of #6209 Moonshadow for the colorwork contrast. Each hank weighs 100 grams.

Needle requirements include size 8 (5.00 mm) circular knitting needles in both 29-inch and 16-inch lengths for working the body and sleeves in the round, plus one set of four size 8 (5.00 mm) double-pointed needles for the crown shaping. Additional supplies include a stitch marker and four stitch holders for managing stitches during construction.

The recommended gauge is 20 stitches and 26 rounds over 4 inches in stockinette stitch, making accurate gauge checking essential before beginning the project to ensure proper finished measurements.
