What is Being Made

Construction Techniques

Top-Down Construction: The Oneida is worked from the neck downward, allowing knitters to try on the garment as it develops and easily adjust the final length. This method begins with a cast-on at the neckline and progresses toward the hem.

Seamless, In-the-Round Knitting: The garment is primarily worked in the round using circular needles, eliminating the need for seaming. The yoke is worked in the round to the underarms, at which point the pattern divides the stitches for the body and sleeves. The body continues in the round to the lower edge, while sleeves are completed separately using double-pointed needles.

Lace Pattern Integration: Lace stitch patterns are incorporated throughout the design, creating an elegant, openwork aesthetic. The pattern includes chart-based lace sections that add visual interest and texture to the finished sweater.

Stitches and Techniques Used

Materials and Gauge

Yarn: The Oneida is designed to be worked with Berroco Farro, a yarn weight requiring 5 to 11 balls (50 grams each) depending on the size selected. The sample shown is knitted in color #6445 Viola. Berroco Farro is the recommended yarn for this pattern to ensure proper fit and drape.

Needles and Notions: The pattern requires a combination of needle sizes and types to accommodate different sections of the sweater. Knitters will need 16-inch and 29-inch circular needles in size 6 (4.00 mm) for the main body work, as well as 16-inch circular needles and one set of double-pointed needles in size 4 (3.50 mm) for ribbed sections and sleeve completion.
