What Is Being Made

The Peiros is a triangular knitted shawl designed by Amy Christoffers, featuring approximately 70 inches along the lace edge and 40 inches down the center. This intermediate-level project is worked seamlessly from the bottom up in a flat construction, combining garter stitch sections with charted lace patterning for a sophisticated wrap suitable for layering or draping.

Techniques Used

This shawl employs bottom-up construction, meaning knitting begins at the base and progresses toward the finished edges. The design is worked flat on circular needles rather than in the round, allowing for directional increases that shape the triangular silhouette. The pattern incorporates lace techniques through charted stitch patterns that create openwork sections, combined with garter stitch (knit every row) in designated areas. Seamless construction eliminates the need for seaming, as the entire piece is created as one continuous fabric. Strategic yarn-over increases are worked throughout to achieve the proper shaping and drape characteristic of a triangular shawl.

Gauge: 16 stitches and 26 rows equal 4 inches in garter stitch; 11 stitches equal 2½ inches over the 17-stitch-wide charted pattern section. Checking gauge before beginning ensures accurate finished measurements.
