Breinne Accessories in Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia

What is Being Made

The Breinne Accessories collection comprises two coordinating knit pieces: a fitted hat and a pair of gloves. Designed by Claudia Wersing as part of The Nordic Collection, these accessories are crafted from Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia yarn in the color Smoked. The hat is available in three sizes to fit head circumferences of 18, 19½, and 21¼ inches, while the gloves are designed in one size to fit average-sized hands. The collar piece measures 13½ inches in length with a circumference of 20½ inches, making these accessories suitable for layering and cold-weather wear.

Techniques and Construction Methods

These knit accessories are constructed using circular knitting techniques combined with double-pointed needles for seamless construction. The hat is worked in the round using both circular needles and double-pointed needles as the project progresses from the wider body to the narrower crown. The gloves similarly employ in-the-round knitting to create a tubular, fitted garment without seams. Decreasing stitches is employed to shape the hat crown, while the use of stitch markers helps maintain pattern placement and section divisions throughout the projects. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that knitters should be comfortable with circular needle work, reading stitch patterns, and executing decreases and increases in the round.

Stitches Used

The Breinne Accessories utilize several fundamental knitting stitches to create texture and structure:

  • Stockinette Stitch – The primary stitch used throughout both projects when worked in rounds, created by knitting every round. This stitch produces a smooth, classic fabric with a distinctive V-pattern appearance on the right side.
  • Ribbed Stitch – Worked in rounds as alternating knit and purl stitches (K1, P1 repeat). Ribbing is used to create elastic edges that hug the head and hands, providing stretch and recovery.
  • Garter Stitch – Created by alternating knit and purl rounds, this textured stitch adds visual interest and structure to specific sections of the accessories.
  • Blackberry Pattern – A decorative stitch pattern worked in rounds on a stitch count divisible by four. This textured pattern alternates between purl rows and rows combining yarn-overs with decreases, creating a bumpy, three-dimensional surface reminiscent of blackberries.
  • Make One (M1) Increase – Used to add stitches by picking up the horizontal loop between stitches and knitting through the back loop, creating an invisible increase.

Materials and Gauge

The Breinne Accessories pattern calls for Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia yarn, specifically two 100-gram hanks in color 102 Smoked. This yarn choice provides a sophisticated, neutral colorway suitable for versatile styling. The pattern recommends LYKKE® needles for best results. Needle sizes include US 4/3.5mm circular needles measuring 24 inches long, US 6/4mm circular needles of the same length, and complementary sets of double-pointed needles in both sizes. The use of two different needle sizes allows for gauge control and creates definition between ribbed and stockinette sections. The recommended gauge is 22 stitches and 40 rows measured over 4 inches in Stockinette stitch using US 6/4mm needles, ensuring proper fit and drape of the finished accessories. Eight stitch markers are required to track pattern repeats and construction sections throughout both projects.
