Debbie Bliss Flower Baby Knitting Collection

The Debbie Bliss Flower Baby collection is a comprehensive set of coordinating knitted garments designed for infants from newborn through 12 months. This downloadable PDF pattern includes five distinct projects that work together as a complete baby wardrobe: a Peter Pan collared jumper, a flower cardigan, bloomers, a bonnet, and sandals. Each piece is sized across four age ranges (0-3, 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12 months) to accommodate growing babies.

Peter Pan Collared Jumper

The Peter Pan collared jumper is a classic baby garment featuring a distinctive Peter Pan collar detail. This intermediate-level knitting project uses Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn in Duck Egg as the main color, with white accents. The jumper is constructed using the seamed, worked-flat technique, meaning pieces are knitted separately on straight needles and then sewn together. Three buttons provide functional closure and decorative detail. The garment requires 3mm (US 2-3) and 3.25mm (US 3) knitting needles, along with a short circular 3mm needle for collar work. Chest measurements range from 49cm (19¼ inches) for the smallest size to 58cm (22¾ inches) for the largest, with sleeve lengths varying from 13cm to 19cm across the size range.

Flower Cardigan

The flower cardigan is the signature piece of this collection, constructed from Debbie Bliss Eco Baby yarn in white. This cardigan features six buttons for front closure and incorporates embroidered floral details using contrasting yarn colors. Like the jumper, it is worked flat on 3mm (US 2-3) and 3.25mm (US 3) needles and uses the seamed construction method. The cardigan shares similar chest and length measurements with the jumper across all four age sizes, making it a coordinating piece that pairs well with other items in the collection.

Bloomers

The bloomers are a coordinating bottom garment made from Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in Duck Egg with white accents. This piece is worked flat using 2.75mm (US 2) and 3.25mm (US 3) needles and incorporates an elastic waistband for secure fit. Embroidered details in yellow and black add playful character. Waist measurements range from 45cm (17¾ inches) to 59cm (23¼ inches), with lengths from 38cm to 43cm, allowing for growth and layering over diapers.

Bonnet

The bonnet is a small, coordinating accessory knitted from Debbie Bliss Eco Baby in white. This piece includes embroidered contrast details and is constructed on 3mm (US 2-3) and 3.25mm (US 3) needles using the worked-flat technique. The bonnet provides a finishing touch to complete the outfit.

Sandals

The sandals are delicate footwear pieces made from Debbie Bliss Eco Baby in white. These are the smallest projects in the collection, sized for ages 0-3 and 3-6 months. They are knitted on 2.75mm (US 2) needles and feature two buttons for decorative closure or fastening. Embroidered contrast details complete the design.

Materials and Techniques Overview

The Flower Baby collection uses two premium Debbie Bliss yarns: Baby Cashmerino, a luxurious blend offering softness and warmth, and Eco Baby, a sustainable yarn option. All pieces employ the worked-flat construction technique, meaning they are knitted in separate pieces on straight needles rather than in the round, then seamed together. This approach is ideal for intermediate knitters as it allows for easier shaping and buttonhole placement.

Buttonhole technique is featured throughout the collection, particularly in the cardigans and jumper, allowing for functional and decorative button closures. The seamed construction method provides clean, professional finishing and allows pieces to be customized with embroidery details. Embroidery is used across multiple garments to add the signature floral elements that give this collection its name and visual appeal.

  • Peter Pan collared jumper: 3-4 balls of Baby Cashmerino (Duck Egg), 1 ball Baby Cashmerino (White), 3 buttons
  • Flower cardigan: 3-4 balls of Eco Baby (White), 6 buttons, contrasting embroidery yarn
  • Bloomers: 2-3 balls of Baby Cashmerino (Duck Egg), 1 ball Baby Cashmerino (White), elastic, embroid

instructions were vague. i.e. "Join elastic into a ring. Work a herringbone casing over rib at waist, enclosing elastic." on bloomers-no mention of how many stitches to cast on or what a "herringbone" pattern was. On peter pan top the directions for the top button hole left a piece on yarn across the hole. The short rows left large gaps not shown in the pictures making it seem that the knitter for the picture used a different method than instructed. Maybe I am just not an experienced enough...
