I've used Dream in Color Smooshy and Classy before because the colours are gorgeous. And now there's a version with cashmere? Count me in.

My beloved sister also made me a shawlette in this yarn. Not only do I love it, she loved knitting with it and everyone she knew kept picking up the work in progress to exclaim about the colour (Deep Sea Flower) and the SOFTNESS. It was quite a battle at times to get them to hand it back!

Seriously soft, this is the sort of skein where you want to love it and cuddle it and call it George...sorry, where was I? The one downside for my purposes is that it's handwash, which is fair enough given its cashmere content, but does limit the people for whom I can knit socks with it. Socks for curling up on the sofa in sweats on a rainy Friday night after a long week, with a glass of wine and a BBC murder mystery? Definitely. Socks to wear under your hiking boots? Not so much.

But so soft and pretty!

This yarn was very disappointing... With such a high price tag (I purchased 4 skeins), I would have expected better quality in skeining the yarn. It took over 2 hours for one skein to be wound and another 1.5 hours for the remaining 3 skeins. DiC claims "overhandling" or "user error" were the cause, but the skeins looked pretty until they were put on the swift and I've wound too many skeins to know I wasn't the cause. No amount of overhandling could cause all the loose strands that I observed after the yarn was on the swift. It was one of those skeins that you can tell is going to be a nightmare before you even get started. IMO, this is usually caused by a lack of re-skeining after dying the yarn, something you should do to keep everything in order. After my winding, I thought I was done with the heartbreak.... I started my project but noticed my hands were getting progressively darker and darker. The yarn was bleeding all over my hands. I know this can happen, but with an expensive high quality yarn I didn't really expect it. It was so noticeable people actually commented on it. My last straw with this yarn was when I switched to a different skein of my main color. The colors, both from the same dye lots, were so extremely different. I can appreciate subtle differences in hand dyed yarn, but this extreme was almost like getting yarn at two different stores with two different dye lots.

It is really a shame. I loved the feeling of the yarn... it was so soft and squishy. My sweater looks pretty (minus the ombre look that happened with the same color). I really want to love this yarn, but it will be hard to try it again after that experience.

P.S. After confronting DiC about the winding issue there is now a disclaimer on their ravelry page.

Comments about DREAM IN COLOR Smooshy with Cashmere:

I made "stranded show off socks" in Blue Fish. The pattern looks a bit like fish scales and the yarn is gorgeous. That touch of cashmere makes special gift socks that are extra warm. It was wonderful to knit.

Comments about DREAM IN COLOR Smooshy with Cashmere:

I love how soft this is. But beware, the Aparhy colorway is not the beautiful mustard color shown in the picture, but a pondscum green color. Not to mention balling this yarn up took forever with all of the tangles. The most disappointing this that this expensive cashmere yarn had, two knots in the skein. With all of that said, this yarn in exceptionally soft, but the cons out weight the pros for me unfortunately.

Comments about DREAM IN COLOR Smooshy with Cashmere:

I knit 2 beautiful shawls with this (2 different colors) - so incredibly soft, a lovely feel while knitting, just a pleasure to work with and I would definitely use again (hoping it goes on sale again!) However - as previous reviewers have stated, it is a bit difficult to wind (but worth the effort in my opinion) AND both colors I ordered were VERY different from their pictures online. The Icy Reception, for example, is pictured as almost white with slight greenish blue tinge - mine was really a dark greenish blue (with occasional sheens of purple coming through in spots); very different from photo but very beautiful. I love the colors I received, but be aware that the color photos might not be so accurate.

Comments about DREAM IN COLOR Smooshy with Cashmere:

Last night I finished winding my 2nd skein and it took hours to untangle it. I wound the 1st skein no problem. Then the 2nd skein was cockeyed when trying to put it on the swift. I took it off of the winder and tried going in and out of yarn on the swift, and it got horribly tangled. I ended up cutting, and now I have about 9 small balls. On the pro side, I've used this before and love the softness. The colors are beautiful, and has a nice twist. The web picture didn't show as much blue in it. In fact, I thought I was getting more of a gray and beige, but the blue is beautiful, so that's not a problem. Last night I almost threw the whole skein in the garbage when trying to untangle, but I couldn't throw away cashmere, not matter how frustrated! I'll add the tidbits to my stash, maybe use in a linen stitch, one row scarf, or modular knits, hummmmmmm.

This yarn makes the perfect pair of luxury socks. I have no complaints. It is extremely easy to knit with. It has beautiful stitch definition and a lovely sheen. I would recommend sticking with a simple stitch pattern, like stockinette, in order to make the most of the colors.

Comments about DREAM IN COLOR Smooshy with Cashmere:

Loved the color and texture but winding was so disappointing! I was not able to use my winder because the yarn was already tangled in the skein. I wound hundreds of balls in various yarns but never had this problem before. Had to wind it manually and it was a mess.
