Comments about 31.00 Refined Sport:

The color changes are long and smooth for an ombré effect. A ball is long enough for a hat with a long turned up brim. This yarn is soft and lovely!

Comments about 31.00 Refined Sport:

I love Freia's gradients. the color combos are rich and engaging and just unusual enough to peak your interest. I didn't care for the yarn being would differently between the two cakes, I would prefer to have my order with the cakes being wound in the same color order. I didn't realize it would be an issue.

Comments about 31.00 Refined Sport:

I have knitted with this yarn twice. I made the shawlette "Arlington", designed by knitterrain, aka Emily Ross. The end result was stunning! (mine is called Lichen the Lace, and you can view it on Ravelry). It's soft and the slow change colorway is beautiful, but there's a lot more grey in my Lichen than I thought there would be. Still, the end result is amazing. The plies of merino and silk don't want to stick together, especially right off of the ball. It looks like a sad, crumpled little yarn if it's not under tension. It's a bit fragile because of that.

The weight of this yarn is confusing too. It feels a lot more like a dk than a sport weight. I had to go up several needle sizes to get a gauge that I liked.

I prefer the 100% wool sport weight, as it's a single and almost a roving. However, the refined merino silk is smoother and has a soft sheen from the silk content, so it might be the better choice for sensitive skin, or people who just haven't fallen in love with all wool (yet!).

I've made two hats with this yarn in the same colorway. Each one was thrilling to knit. There was no pooling. This is a soft yarn with a slight halo. I just wish it would go on sale!

          Comments about 31.00 Refined Sport:

This is one of the nicest yarns I've ever knitted with. The silk and wool combination is luxurious and with a generous 256 yards, it goes a long way. The "ombre" colors are unique resulting in interesting sweater and hat color combinations. It washes well in cool water (although the blues do run a bit). It's wise to order the same lot numbers for each project since the colors do seem to vary. The fiber on mittens (with daily use) do start pilling, but there is no shedding. The yarn is strong and tolerates pulling and tugging but it does have a tendency to split if you have to re-knit or rework stitches. Since it is ombre, the colors can be tricky to match a pair of socks or mittens but for scarves, sweaters or hats this yarn is a real pleasure and a definite treat to work with.

          Is the yardage correct?

          By

          from Baltimore

          Comments about 31.00 Refined Sport:

First, I LOVE this yarn. It is so exciting to knit with because even with a simple pattern, seeing the color change subtly throughout the project is addictive. I know Freia makes a number of handpainted yarns with ombre color schemes and all are beautiful. I personally prefer this yarn because of the wool/silk blend.

I would mention 2 cons for this yarn, but neither will hold me back from using. First, it splits when correcting mistakes. Second, in some of the darker colors, the dye has not saturated the yarn. Sometimes, there are white spots on the outside of the yarn I think it adds to the beauty but you may want to inspect your yarn before beginning a project.

to WEBS - Are you sure the yardage is correct? The only wool/silk combination I have found is called 'Refined' and it is 165 yards in the worsted size.
