Hot Mat with Skewers on a Rigid Heddle Loom - Fall 2026 - In Person

This delightful mat is a perfect gift for a holiday table. The cotton and wood elements make a winning combo to protect the table from warm serving dishes, teapots, etc. (This mat is not meant for HOT pans.) The finished 12” square size is perfect for occasional or everyday use.

Students get a threading refresher, learn how to lash on, create warp floats to hold the skewers as well as make thinner top and bottom borders for hemming.

The loom will be dressed in class and students then work at their own pace. If the mat is not finished during class time, it may then be finished at home.

For the comfort and safety of our students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during in person classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.

Format: In-Person

Prerequisite: Intro To Rigid Heddle, or equivalent

Materials Required: 15” or larger RH loom with 12 dent reed, stand or loom clamps, warping peg, threading hook, tape measure, 2 sturdy rubber bands, scissors, two 16” or longer stick shuttles, one 18” or longer pickup stick (or additional shuttle), Fray Check, 22-30 twelve inch long skewers or dowels (Sample used 22 hardwood dowels ⅛” by 12 inches long.), craft paper approximately 14” by 36” (can be in two pieces.)

Yarn: Valley 3/2 cotton, approximately 336 yards of main color for warp and weft and 25 yards of contrast color for warp floats. Several yards of scrap yarn for header.

Cancellation Policy: For all classes, payment of full tuition is due at time of registration. Tuition will be refunded only if the class is cancelled by WEBS, or if there is a waiting list and your spot can be filled.
