I made a fair isle pullover. Took forever. The yarn is so fine that progress is slow. However, the garment is exquisitely light and feels like being covered in an airy wrap - but retains warmth because of the layered pockets created by stranding. Always over estimate the number of stitches needed. Seems almost absurdly large when contemplating the stitch count but the end result has never been too large. For example 384 in fingering wt. (my usual) would be way to small. More like 450. Plan on knitting a garment like a pullover - oh say, a year and have a few diversions on the side to keep you feeling like you are accomplishing something. Makes the slowness of creating more tolerable. In the end you've created a masterpiece.

The hank I received was a big mess. It took 2 hours to wind into a ball because it kept breaking, tangling, knotting, and meshing together. It's shameful that any yarn is this difficult to get ready to knit, much less a yarn at this price point.

Feels wonderful, colorway off, misery to wind

    By

    Pros

    • Nice Texture
    • Soft

    Cons

    • Poor Quality Skein
    • Unexpected Colorway

    Best Uses

Comments about true Mongolian Cashmere 2-ply:

I selected the colorway based on the photos on the manufacturer's website, which showed distinct greys and blues. The yard I received was almost uniformly grey with a slight haze of blue over grey in a few places.

I can live with the color, but the process of winding this yarn was unbelievable. It took about 90 minutes to wind one skein. Even with painstaking care, the slightest tug broke the yarn. Slight tugs were almost unavoidable because it was already a bit tangled before I began. In addition to the 3 times that I broke it, the skein that I received had 6 ends instead of two (which tangled hopelessly), plus a few lengths (18"-24") that weren't attached the the rest of the skein at all. At this price point, I expect an intact skein at least.

Comments about true Mongolian Cashmere 2-ply:

Knitting with this yarn is probably like trying to knit with room temp. whipped cream. It was so soft, light and smooth it was sometimes difficult to feel the yarn going thru my fingers ! Absolutely lovely to work with. Even tho the yarn is cashmere, there is very little fuzz on the finished product. That surprised me and I think it made a difference in the actual "finish" of the Victorian wrist warmers I made. They are really stunning and since the trend is drifting towards the Victorian era items, I would definitely keep this yarn in mind when making things like lace scarf, shawl, or wrist warmers or fingerless lace gloves. You won't be disappointed...just don't knit in a dimly lit room...you will never feel the yarn in your hand or fingers.!!! A 5+ star yarn.

This 2-ply yarn works into beautiful scarves. It's the perfect weight for California weather -- not too delicate, but with just enough body to drape perfectly. I've purchased it in several colors and have never been disappointed. However, if there is one disappointment, it's that I can't find this yarn in a true "dark navy" color! I'm considering for my next purchase the 4-ply yarn for a sweater. In the meantime, I'll keep buying Jade Sapphire 2-ply until my family and friends stop requesting scarves!

            • Colorway Not As Pictured

            Best Uses

Comments about true Mongolian Cashmere 2-ply:

I ordered 2 different times and the first order the yarn color was close to pictured, the Dinosaur Dawn color. These are individually dyed so I did not expect an exact match. It was very soft, worked up beautifully in a 2-color cowl with Ivory as the 2nd color. Very happy with that purchase and the product.

After completion of that project, I ordered Polychrome Mountains colorway especially because as pictured there was some orange in the mix. However, what I received was more tone-on-tone red-violet. I debated whether to keep it, but am using it to make a Christmas gift and the recipient will like the result, I think, again combining it with Ivory. The texture of Polychrome Mountains was much coarser as well, again possibly attributed to the way the yarn took the dye.

I'm not discouraged and have ordered more for a 3rd project in a different set of colors. I'll see how closely what I receive conforms to the colors pictured. Again, I am not expecting a perfect match but closer than what I received in the 2nd purchase.

              Service and delivery comments:

Experience with delivery was excellent! Received very soon after ordering.

Comments about true Mongolian Cashmere 2-ply:

I'm making a cowl as a gift for a 90th birthday and needed something super soft and feminine. The yarn fits that description but you have to be very gentle with it. If you have to rip a piece back be very careful or you will tear the yarn.
The other thing that isn't so great was that the color I ordered was a lot darker than in the picture and not variegated at all. More of a dove grey than a light greyish blue.
