Lana Grossa 04 Pullover in Benessere

What is Being Made

The Lana Grossa 04 Pullover in Benessere is a knitted sweater designed as part of the Filati Lookbook 07 collection. This garment is available in three sizes: 36/38, 40/42, and 44/46, with finished chest widths of 56.5 cm, 58.5 cm, and 60.5 cm respectively. The pullover features a structured design with multiple stitch pattern sections, including ribbed edges, textured panels, and stockinette stitch body sections, creating visual interest and dimension throughout the garment.

Techniques Used

This pullover is constructed using bottom-up knitting methodology, where the garment pieces are worked from the cast-on edge upward. The pattern employs seamed construction, meaning individual pieces are knitted separately and then sewn together. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing for easier pattern management and shaping control.

The design incorporates full-fashion increases for side shaping, a technique that creates decorative, aligned decreases and increases that are visible as part of the garment's design rather than hidden within seams. The front and back pieces feature strategic shaping at the sides, with increases worked at specific intervals to create a fitted silhouette. Neck shaping is accomplished through bind-offs at the center front, with additional single stitch bind-offs at each neck edge to create a gradual neckline curve. Shoulder shaping uses a stepped bind-off technique, with multiple two-stitch or three-stitch bind-offs worked across several rows to create a smooth shoulder line.

Stitches Used

The Lana Grossa 04 Pullover incorporates several distinct stitch patterns:

  • Stockinette Stitch (St st): The primary stitch used for the body sections, created by knitting on right-side rows and purling on wrong-side rows. This stitch forms the smooth, flat fabric that comprises the majority of the garment.
  • Half-Brioche Rib: A decorative ribbed pattern worked over a multiple of 2 stitches according to charts A and B. This textured rib appears at the side edges of the front piece, with 10 stitches dedicated to this pattern on each side. Half-brioche rib creates an elastic, dimensional texture that adds visual interest while maintaining flexibility.
  • Knit 2, Purl 2 Rib (K2, P2): A traditional ribbed pattern used as a transition between the half-brioche rib sections and the stockinette stitch body. This rib pattern is repeated 6, 7, or 8 times depending on size, creating vertical lines that enhance the sweater's visual structure.
  • Texture Pattern: An 11-stitch pattern worked according to chart C, positioned at the center front of the garment. This textured panel creates a focal point and adds tactile interest to the pullover's front.

Materials

The Lana Grossa 04 Pullover in Benessere is knitted using Lana Grossa Benessere yarn, a premium blend composed of 45% cotton, 32% alpaca, and 23% polyamide. This fiber composition creates a garment with excellent breathability from the cotton content, warmth and softness from the alpaca, and durability and elasticity from the polyamide. The yarn is worked at a gauge of approximately 125 meters per 50 grams.

The pattern requires 400 grams of yarn for size 36/38, 450 grams for size 40/42, and 500 grams for size 44/46, all in the colorway Golden Yellow (color 10). The garment is knitted using size 5 mm and 6 mm needles. Size 5 mm needles are used for the ribbed cuff sections to create a tighter, more elastic fabric, while size 6 mm needles are introduced after the initial ribbing to create a more open gauge for the body sections. A size 5 mm circular needle measuring 40 cm in length is also required, likely for picking up stitches for neckline finishing or for working the collar.
